Yaaaaay, a new Prithvi movie is on Prime. Not a great one, but a new-to-us one. And I just remembered a Tamil film that I really loved that I should repost the review for.
Brothers Day (Malayalam, Prime)
Prithviraj being brotherly, and a little funny, and getting into fights. The plot goes hither and yon, as does the genre (comedy, thriller, family story? I just don’t know!), but Prithvi is great. You know those moments when he is kind and protective and brotherly to a woman and your heart grows 3 sizes? There’s a lot of that.
Enakkul Oruvan (Tamil, Prime and GooglePlay and YouTube)
A really brilliant idea, borrowed from a Kannada film. I’ve seen the Kannada version, and hate me if you like, but I like this one better. It’s clearer, cleaner, and it has Southern Sid.
Billu (Hindi YouTube, Googleplay, Netflix)
A different kind of movie, Shahrukh plays more of a cameo role than a leading part but it is a brilliant performance. And there’s Irrfan Khan, and Lara Dutta being surprisingly good. And generally a really touching story. Also good songs.
Chak De! India (Hindi, Netflix)
I already announced this one, but that was because I got confused and thought I had an open Sunday. Which I didn’t. So it is bumped out to next Sunday. Anyway, great film, you should all watch it.
Siddarth Anand addresses the homoeroticism in War and it’s got an amazing quote from him.
