Friday Watchalong time! The best part of the week! It’s spring break in some places which I think is affecting attendance this week (parents gotta parent), but I am super excited about our film choice!
Aaina! 90s fun times with Juhi and Amrita Singh and naked Jackie Shroff! Why so naked Jackie? Why always so naked?
Oh, and it is free on Prime, or you can rent it for like a dollar on youtube.
And just an FYI, the grandmother is Dina Pathak, Ratna Pathak’s mother.

So the dad knows Juhi was in love with him but not the mom?

Mom is not a mindreader – just dad has those superpowers.

Reema is always dressed very traditionally. Roma wears European styles.

Or how to know the “good girl” from the “bad girl”. One dressed all Indian, the other doesn’t

Awww Juhi! You break my heart! Leave those classes off, you looked so pretty.

How is Juhi this sad over someoen she has literally had one conversation with?!
LikeLike
I don’t think we could even call it a “conversation”. It’s a guy she dreamed about from interviews! At this point, I am totally on Amrita’s side, she didn’t know how Juhi felt, and she actually dated the guy.

Even this “traditional” looking outfit is less traditional than Reema’s.

I think men should get to wear engagement rings.

It is very common in India. Every man that I know in India who got engaged wore a ring.

ME! What a jerk!

Because he didn’t want her to model?

Because he refused to even explain it! Just “no” and no further conversation.

Well, he was being honest. I don’t hate him, but he could have been more considerate.

I have liked him since Trimurti.

Ugh, that is a terrible outfit on Amrita! Those men may not be catcalling but just insulting.

Good point. I forgot about that and must have missed it.

Does it feel like Knife Dude stole his shirt from one of Jackie’s fantasy songs?

Juhi, your mirror is a LIAR!!! You are gorgeous

Apparently, only the mirrors in this movie and Snow White “talk” to people.

His flirt game is so strong in this movie.

I feel like I should show this to a bunch of guys and tell them to take notes on “how to flirt correctly” his game is so strong

Now they are having a real conversation, I can believe Juhi being in love with him after this. He’s so nice and gentlemanly and she’s so sweetly wise.

You are showing Juhi your private place to think Jackie! You know already the one meant for you even if you’re too blind to see it!

Ugh, that orange and purple look so terrible together. Maybe a metaphor for how the sisters don’t go well together, but I hate looking at it.

Ick, I don’t want to marry Amrita, she is a lot over breakfast.

How does Juhi know Jackie’s favorite color?

Because she’s been stalking him for years, obviously.

so irritating, when your relatives develop a habit of crying for no reason. Not like you are making them cry or anything.

How much bronzer did they put on Jackie?!

Is this movie in the time period where once actresses got married they “retired”, or are we past that already at this point?
LikeLike
Smack in the middle of it. Amrita quit working herself after marrying Saif and having Sara. Juhi kept her marriage secret so no one really knows when it happened, only announced when she got pregnant, so she could keep working.

Amrita should just marry the photographer, he clearly liked her, just lacks the riches

I love Amrita the actress so much, bringing the soap opera villainous vibe with the look to the camera.

Finally Juhi gets a semi-flattering outfit! But it still doesn’t show off her figure as much as it should.

That wedding turban is not the best look on Jackie, have to say.

When did Juhi get contacts? I must have blinked.

They just took off her glasses before the song, so in a sense, she is dancing almost blind here

Normally I’m with the runaway bride, but yeah, this was stinky. She was the one who wanted the marriage, she waited until the worst possible moment to break it off when she could have done it at any time, and her family obviously spent soooooooooooooo much money. Not to mention breaking poor Jackie’s heart.

I thought it was Mom’s fault! Definitely got a vibe of Dad picking up the slack because Mom was never around for Juhi and always around for Amrita.

Wait, did all the guests leave? I’m confused. Were they all Amrita’s friends? Why would that many people be friends with Amrita?

There’s the film industry’s shared marigold strands again!

The most amazing thing is that marigolds are originally from Mexico and India has just taken them up for weddings for the last hundreds of years. I’d seen them in so many movies I just assumed they were native to India
