In TWO WEEKS, here are your options:
Getting Rid of Bradley by Jennifer Crusie: This is one of those books I just read every time I need a giggle. It’s frothy, it’s fun, it’s a bit sexy, and it’s very funny too. Basically a screwball comedy in book form. You will be able to read it in a few hours, tops, and it will fly by like nothing. You can get it easily on kindle, used for almost nothing, from your local library, or new if you prefer.
The Marvelous Land of Oz By L. Frank Baum: This is the second Oz book or, as I think of it, the first “real” Oz book. Wizard of Oz was a one off, once it became super super successful Baum wrote a book that could serve as the start of a long series. It’s a fun funny kids book, and it has gender issues that are FASCINATING and I want to talk to someone about them.
The Red Signal by Grace Livingston Hill: this is the book I suggested a few weeks back. Classic very silly WWI era romance novel which includes Evil Spies and also a dramatic moment when the heroine realizes she has left home WITHOUT A HAT and has to make one out of her apron.
Okay, which one are you most excited about?????

I don’t want to read Oz, but I am curious as the author was a populist and Indian hater and it would be interesting to see how that shows up in his work. I don’t feel like worrying about hats, so that book is at the bottom of the pile for me, but I am willing to go for light humor with the Jennifer Crusie book. So basically I vote for Crusie or Oz.

Oooo, Crusie is FUN! I would love it if we ended up with Crusie. Such an easy enjoyable read.

Huh! I read a bio of Baum when I was in high school so I feel like I already know the general outlines of his life.

I’ve read the Oz books all as a kid, so would love to re-read. Although I didn’t know anything about the author at that point… The Red Signal also looks fun — but only if it is AS SILLY AS YOU PROMISED!! 🙂

It is awfully darn silly! But I think the Oz book might be more of a hit.
