Wisdom For a Friday Afternoon: “Sometimes there’s sirens. That’s okay”

My 4 year old Nephew A gave a BIG lecture last night which my sister videotaped for us and I transcribed. Turns out, surprisingly wise!

For the first time in his whooooooooooooooooole memory, Papa wasn’t home in time for bedtime which was very scary and upsetting and strange (Papa just got stuck late at work, it was only strange to Nephew A who has no memory of previous late work nights). And this led to him sitting on the steps by his bedroom and doing one loooooooooooooooooooooong sentence expounding his life philosophy:

TRY! If anyone needs rest, you help them get rest.  That’s when even the sun the clouds are getting rest.  That’s how outside the cars and people and all the furniture and all the toys and EVERYTHING the elliptical and machine toys are off and no one’s using them so everyone’s sleeping and everyone’s done.  But sometimes everyone’s working in the night and in the day like Papa is working right now. Sooooooo….  Always you always get to come back, sometimes you come back in the night, like he’s on his way back? “he is on his way back” YES! that’s how it goes, everyone gets dropped off at their house again, like today you say I get dropped off at school see you later, so then I go to the runway to drop me off at home and you drop me back.  Sometimes it’s rainy day and I play inside, sometimes that’s how it happens.  Like when I was telling you about the machines and the toys and how we share and we don’t share.  And now I will tell you about how to make everyone happy and how you help me help me ummmmm….keep everyone happy.  And when I’m sick you help me, and when I’m not, um, when I’m bonked you help me or you put a bandaid or you call an ambulance and they came with me.  Sometimes that is a new thing and we don’t do BUUUUUT it’s always a new day after night time.  Sometimes night time comes when I go with people in the backseat, sometimes we go to the grocery store.  See, this is how life goes.  Sometimes there’s sirens.  That’s okay.  They don’t catch us, they’re catching other people.  Like when Laurie and Jack feel sad they maybe went to their house.  That’s what I believe.  And do you know what? “What” Sometimes you can have a fun time by yourself without people crying and crying with you that’s want to spoil your things.  AND you get to play with your family.  That’s all I have to say!

My sister says it was one long run on sentence, but that’s too confusing to read. So just pretend it is one long run on sentence if you want the full auditory effect.

Anyway, sometimes there’s sirens. That’s okay. And you always get to come back.

  3. Tell your sister kudos for transcribing it! Now she should frame it and put it on the wall.

And in the theme of wisdom I am sharing a clip of my new favorite actor. The family started watching the movie (The Sleepover) last night, and I’m thinking of withholding desert unless the kids watch the rest of the movie with me tonight. It is video game night, so regular movie watching has competition.

    • Hey, according to my nephew, the best thing is to play with your family! Your kids should be DELIGHTED to spend the night with you.

And yes, that is an amazing clip. You sold me on the movie.
