We haven’t had a good chat in a bit! And it feels like this a good February topic, as we all start cranking up 2024 and figuring out plans and all that.
I am looking forward to my Sanity Trip at the end of the month! I’m doing Wednesday through Sunday in Florida just to try to get some sun. And also to get 100% away from work and home and all that stressy stuff. I booked a room with a balcony in an old downtown hotel, walking distance from a library and coffee shop and bookstore, and across the street from a park. PERFECT.
I am also looking forward to Easter! Not for the Jesus part of it, but because that is when I start turning my apartment over to it’s Summer Self. Take down the heavier winter curtains, put away the space heater from the fireplace, maybe even plant some wildflowers in the yard if I’m feeling cocky! (probably shouldn’t, won’t be past our last frost by then)
And finally, I am looking forward to iced coffee! Something about drinking iced coffee through a straw on a sunny day, just a special happiness.

Thanks for putting the focus on the positives. I’m a little overly nervous right now because we’re getting a hole in our wall this week. And a door, hopefully, to finally make one big flat out of our two neighboring ones. So, in the spirit of this post: It’s going to be great once the dust has settled and we don’t have to move across the stairwell anymore to get our clothes to the washing machine.
Then, we will move past the cold season and be able to meet friends on the playground again.
We’re planning a big party for when I’ve also turned 42 like my wife and we’ll celebrate life, the universe, and everything.
And then there’s our summer vacation, that we’ll once again spend in my parents’ holiday house at the north sea. Takes almost no planning at all.
I’m refusing to think any further than that, though, because after the summer our Big Boy will start school. Can’t really believe it yet.

It’s redo your whole house time on DCIB! I am in the midst of my annual Spring Cleaning, when I clean EVERYTHING including emptying drawers and closets and throw stuff away and dig out the steam cleaner and steam clean my bathroom. I currently have stuff scattered throughout my apartment everywhere. And it’s completely stressing me out, as it does every year. I don’t know if it’s just the chaos or fear that I’ll never get it done. So, what I’m looking forward to is the day a few days from now when I finally finish everything and soak in a hot tub, and go to sleep and wake up in a completely clean apartment. The school year starts in April here, so I really feel like I’m ready for a fresh start afterwards.
