Weekend WatchAlong: Bhangra Paa Le! 7:30am Chicago time (8:30 NY)

Genevieve’s birthday pick! Which does look generally seem fun and watchalong friendly and all of that. But also, I haven’t gotten a HUGE number of RSVPs, so this is one of those weeks where I will give it 15 minutes and then call it if no one else has shown up.

Bhangra Paa Le

It’s on Netflix, it’s not that long, it looks super fun!

at 7:30 Chicago time I will comment “And PLAY” and we will all start simultaneously and then carry along from there!

  1. I’m typing a comment on my brother’s computer to see if it will work with wordpress, which hates my chromebooks. But my brother has a fancy expensive computer, so it should be so much easier…..

  2. Google says, this is one of those won-but-lost battles. The Allies took the objective, but had 55,000 casualties while the Germans had only 20,000

  3. So, my Grandpa was in Italy, and we have his old war trunk. He could have actually fit a whole bhangra drum in there. He didn’t, but it was big enough. So I will accept that scene as fact.

  4. I like Sunny of the past so much better than Sunny of the present, even if the film is really about present day Sunny. I guess I’m attracted to tentative wartime bhangra drummers.

  5. Wait, is the college coach taking Bhangra seriously like it’s a sport? And the star player is just too showy and selfish to play with the team?

    • Warning, I am not a huge fan of the Sassy Bhangra lady he meets in the present, but she is adequate. I am super fond of past loves though.

  6. HA! I love that all the stuff related to the Indians feels historically accurate, but they care so little about bothering with British history, they mess up when the Queen was Queen.

  7. I love that in movies poets and dancers become the MOST IMPORTANT PEOPLE in society. I wish reality followed are more closely.

  8. How can the battle be in 10 days? Unless they are fighting on the pacific front, it would take more time than that to get to a battle! Maybe he just means that’s when the transport is leaving?

    • I’m pretty sure this movie is not obsessed with history, at least not any history that doesn’t involve Bhangra.

  9. I LOVE past love interest! She was in a Shah Rukh film, and I haven’t seen her since…. Of course I haven’t looked.

  10. I think Past Love interesting is Shriya Pilgoankar? Her Dad is a very hard working longtime Marathi-Bombay based actor. He was in Sholay as a teenager and a child actor for years before that, and now does a ton of character work. I love her, but sort of odd that someone from a well known Maharashtrian acting family is playing Punjabi!

  11. This was where I first learned that people brushed their teeth with twigs. I suppose I hadn’t really thought about it before, though the price of plastic toothbrushes has long mystified me.

  12. Mr. T is entranced with this movie so far! He is also alternating between feeding my Baby K and playing with my hair!

  13. I’m worried about the school team intermural rules. Can she just sign on as a transfer student last minute and no one will question it? This seems very iffy and immoral.

    • I love how obvious the plot line is of them all scurrying off as soon as they know the name of his love interest, and yet, it is still funny. No one had time to fall into the well.

  14. FilmiKudhi just sent me a photo of Baby K, funniest/cutest part is that she is holding the bottle just with her lips, no hands. Looks like a big cigar waving around in her mouth.
