Happy Wednesday! I am soooooooooooo excited to have a 3 day weekend this week. I’ve gonna tackle Box Mountain in my front hall, mow the lawn, maybe sit down and do a whole puzzle start to finish.
I’ll start!
Reading: Is anyone else enjoying the insanity of the Bennifer coverage? I’ve getting multiple NEWS ALERT emails every day from People magazine about things like “No photos of them together in 47 days!” “Wedding rings visible!” “JLo ‘liked’ a post about bad relationships!” It’s almost Indian coverage-like in it’s obsession.
Watching: I have almost finished all of Babylon 5! It’s just so good. And remarkably romantic/relationship based.
Thinking: Somehow, I never seem to have food lately. I currently have fresh spinach, egg salad, and 4 eggs in my fridge. Which are technically all food, but I’m not sure how to combine them into a meal. I went to the grocery store this morning but froze when making a decision and ended up just getting more coffee.
Listening: Finally finished watching Eurovision last night! Did not like this years winner, but I did love the Croatia entry very very much.
Also, YES! I have opinions about the Netherlands being disqualified!
What are y’all watching and reading and listening to?
Have you ever read The End of the Affair ? I have heard so much about the novel, is it worth the hype?

I haven’t, but I know about it. If you do read it I will be interested in your reaction! Especially in comparison with Jab Tak Hain Jaan.

Gosh! I didn’t realise that. Jab Tak Hai Jaan is another level of foolishness. I hope the book isn’t like that.

From what I’ve read about the book, it’s Jab Tak Hain Jaan if there were actual REASONS behind actions.

The End of the Affair is great! Yes, reasons behind their actions and everyone is capable of crossing a street!

Hello! New reader here! Have you read “The Priory of the Orange Tree”? it’s young adult, and it’s quite good. It’s a feminist fantasy book. The prequel just came out.

I haven’t! Thanks for the suggestion!

I watched “8 am Metro” today and it was so beautiful. I was waiting 1 year for this film to appear somewhere in streaming and finally it’s here. It’s like Lunchbox , but better (and sadder) in my opinion. Gulshan Devaiah is so good, you just want to enter the movie and hug him. Recommended.

Watched: Bridgerton – Anyone else watch it?
Laapataa Ladies – The new Kiran Rao film and it’s delightful. Mostly new actors and they are all very good. Kind of a social satire but ultimately heartwarming, recommend it for everyone here.
Memsahib and Tumsa Nahin Dekha – I listen to the Filmi Ladies podcast where they are doing a Kapoor series and these are the movies covered for Shammi. I’m glad I watched these as I got to see young Shammi as a villain and the genesis of the Shammi persona as we know it. Also first time seeing Meena Kumari playing a fun, contemporary character. I feel you will appreciate this elaborate birthday party song for her puppy-
Deepika has been out and about and her baby bump is showing! I know it’s weird but I’m so happy for her. It’s just that she has talked about this for long and now it’s happening.

Yay! Laapata Ladies is SO GOOD and wholesome.
“Birthday song for a puppy” was not on my bingo list for Meena Kumari. Which of those movies is that from? (I only know the Bengali Memsahib).
I saw the Deepika video today! She’s so happy!

It’s Mem Sahib. It also has Kishore Kumar as a monk who has to be taught how to be a ‘gentleman’.
Yes, Deepika’s glowing!

I had an access to Indian Prime Video for one week and I’ve seen some strange stuff I had on my watchlist for years (some from 2017 exactly). Well , one thing I learnt is that if a movie vanished without a trace, most probably it deserved to vanish. Just like Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai. It’s the textbook example of how not to make a movie. Everything is so messy, from the plot to acting, but what I found the worst are the costumes. I had no idea in which decade the action takes place that’s how confused it was: the dresses from the 60′ mixed with 90′ and 2000′. The heroine was from little town in Rajastan but she wears very short skirts. And she wears them in the summer but also in the winter when there is snow. Btw isn’t Rajasthan a very hot state? Is there even snow in Rajasthan?! Really one big mess, this is the trailer:
I also saw Hi Anokhi Gaath, Marathi version of Woh 7 Din / RNBDJ with Shreyas Talpade playing the husband, some kannada movies and Unni Mukundan’s film. But nothing worth mentioning really. And the other day I saw Do Aur Do Pyaar on Einthusan (with Vidya Balan, Pratik Gandhi, Ileana and super hot Sendhil Ramamurthy). It was worth watching because all the actors are great, especially Vidya. She should plays those confident , sexy characters more often. And the chemistry? Terrific. From the first scene when I saw Vidya and Sendhil I was like: Man, this people are sexy and they know it. Recommended.

Angie, I always feel you and me somehow both end up watching very similar films. These odd strange films that no one else ends up watching but me. Have you watched Super Nani and Kuku Mathur ki Jhand ho Gaya?

Kuku Mathur ki Jhand ho Gaya is one of the very few Indian movies still available on Italian Prime Video and I considered watching it. Is it very bad?
The other odd movie I watched was Dil Jo Na Keh Saka. It was the most predicable of predicable movies. I finished it only because I thought that after almost 7 years on my watchlist it deserves to be finished. The funny thing is that both Dil Jo Na Keh Saka and Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai share an actor Himansh Kohli. I never heard about him and then I saw two of his movies one after another. Poor guy, he must be the actor with the worst script selection ever. He made 4 movies in 2017 but all were so bad he disappeared completely.

I watched it 4 years ago and I remember it was quite bad. The actor of that film especially always made me think he looked like if Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik Roshan had a child who was girl but then transformed into a man. It is very stupid and I remember the hero was a horrible man.
Himansh Kohli did Yaariyan and that was a hit but mostly because of the songs. But still I remember his face quite well because of Yaariyan. Rakul Preet also started her hindi film career in Yaariyan but then went to south and hit it big there.
