FilmFare Awards Performances: Which are the Must Watch and Which can you Skip?

I already covered who actually won the awards, but that isn’t the biggest question of the night.  No, the biggest question is always, Who Performed?

Again, thanks to awesome Times of India and their minute by minute coverage, I can answer that!

Going last to first, apparently Kriti Sanom did a tribute to Sandhanaji?  Why?  I mean, she’s a nice random starlet who probably had plenty of time for rehearsals, but was there really no one else willing to do it?  It’s Sadhana!  She brought bangs to India!  Anyway, not too terribly interested in this performance, Kriti’s dancing did not impress in Dilwale.  I understand why they stuck it at the end.

Ranveer Singh danced a tribute to Aditya Chopra, his mentor, using “Ruk Ja O Dil Deewane” from DDLJ, “Aankhen Khuli” from Mohabbatein, and “Hum Hai Rahe Pyar Ke” from Rab Ne.  So, it’s also kind of a Shahrukh tribute, but we are pretending it is just for Aditya Chopra.  Who isn’t even there to see it.  Unlike Shahrukh.  But, sure, it’s for Adi!  Also, Kriti-Shmirti, this is the real finale event of the evening.

Before that there was something that ToI only described as “Kapil Sharma displays his sense of humor to Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan”.  What does this possibly mean?!?  Now I am obsessed with finding out.

Before that, apparently, Salman arrived in a flying chariot, sang “Main Hoon Hero”, and danced to “Selfie Pe Le Le”.  I MUST SEE THIS!!!  Youtube, help me!!!

Mika Singh performed for the first time at FilmFare!  That’s kind of shocking, he has been HUGE for years, and FilmFare never invited him?  I get that they usually try for something a little classier than Mika, but still!  “Bas Ek King”!  Since 2007! Anyway, now I want to see this performance too, because I’m guessing he can really work a crowd.

(Bas Ek King!  Bas Ek Mika!)

Before Mika, Alia performed songs from her father’s films.  Hmm.  I know she is getting better as a dancer, and is a pretty big name in her own right by now, but this just feels kind of odd.  Not as odd as when her big sister was cast as a teenager, playing a character based on herself as a teenager, in a film about how she saved her own father from alcoholism, directed by said father, and titled “Daddy.”  But still odd.  Anyway, I want to watch it! (oh, and she also did a Shaandar mash-up, so I guess we aren’t pretending that movie never happened any more?)

SRK and Kapil Sharma apparently did a comedy dance using the literal meaning of the song lyrics of this year’s nominated songs.  OH MY GOD I AM SO THERE!!!  I will give you tens of dollars if you can find me a video of this!

SHAHRUKH AND MADHURI!  DANCED!  TOGETHER!  Okay, I rescind my previous offer, now you can only get tens of dollars for this video.

And the first performance of the night, the evening started off with Ranveer Singh dancing, but just to songs from Bajirao, not to classic stuff.  So I am less excited.

Well, really it started off with Karan Johar giving out a couple of technical awards, but let’s be real, no one arrives on time to these things.  And everyone leaves early.  That’s why Shahrukh’s dance came in after Ranveer started us off with Bajirao stuff, followed by Alia, Mika, Salman, Ranveer again, and finally Kriti, while we are all looking for our shoes and rushing for the car and going “Kriti?  Really?”
