Engagement story!  Sikander Kehr apparently had a lowkey engagement to Priya Singh (not an actress) a couple days ago.  His parents and the Bachchans were there, and presumably also other people we care about less.  But the biggest note from this story is a sign of how important Sonam is getting in the industry

Apparently, Priya Singh is Sonam Kapoor’s cousin.  At least, that’s how it’s being referenced.  Which means she could also be described as Ranveer Singh’s cousin probably, and definitely as Anil Kapoor’s niece.  But, nope!  Across the internet, it’s coming out as Sonam’s cousin.

What’s even more interesting is that there is a good chance they met through Arjun Kapoor, who is not even mentioned.  Sikander Kehr’s biggest role was in Aurangzeb with Arjun Kapoor.  So I would guess, that’s how he was introduced to Priya, since if she is Sonam’s cousin, she is also Arjun’s cousin, or at least a cousin by marriage.

I think part of this is that they want us to relate to the fiancee as a young sophisticated woman, so relating to Sonam helps with that (which goes back to my argument with Coldplay, that they didn’t really use her personality which is so strongly modern and urban in their video).  But another part of it is, Sonam is currently more likely to get clicks than if they used Arjun or possibly even Ranveer.  Good on you Sonam!  All those international appearances and connections and working in your own production studio and landing the Neerja role, it’s all paying off with your name in headlines that don’t even have anything to do with you!

(Speaking of interesting family connections, NO ONE is clarifying that Sikander Kehr is actually Anupum’s stepson, from Kirron Kehr’s first marriage, who Anupum adopted years ago.  Which I am totally fine with, because he is Sikander’s father, and am only mentioning now because I think we should all take a moment to applaud Anupum Kehr for being so clear that he is Sikander’s father, end of discussion, and to applaud the Indian press for not really having a problem with reporting it like that)
