News Round-Up: All About Alia-Alia, Alia, Alia

She gets 3 separate news items today!  Very impressive for a 22 year old!  On the other hand, they are mostly things that a 22 year old should not be involved in!

First, the Kapoor & Sons promotion continues apace.  The album came out a few days ago and is getting spectacular reviews.  And there are now three song videos, a party song, a nightclub song, and a love song, all of which are getting a ton of press and views.

(Nightclub)

(Party song)

(Love song)

In addition to the albums, Karan has the three stars traveling the country making personal appearances, giving interviews, etc.  Very similar to his promotional strategy for Student of the Year, promoting the movie by promoting the stars and vice versa.  It’s a smart business move, thinking ahead.  He sank a ton of effort and imagination into promoting Alia and Siddharth 4 years ago, and now he can get them to headline a huge and, possibly, controversial movie for his production house, getting a return for his investments through their fame and loyalty.

Secondly, Alia is about to start a second schedule of shooting for Gauri Shinde’s next which, it is confirmed, will star her opposite Shahrukh.  Nooooooo!  Whyyyyyyyy?  He is SO OLD!!!  Just based on shooting schedules, it looks like she may be the main star and he will have more of a friendly appearance, but even if he is her boyfriend that she breaks up with in the first scene, it is still creepy creepy creepy!!!

Speaking of creepy, Alia was also just confirmed to be in Aashiqui 3 opposite Hrithik.  This is the movie that was going to have Kangana, but then (supposedly) Hrithik had her fired because they had an ugly break-up, and after that (definitely), Kangana issued a public statement saying he was being petty and wouldn’t let things go.  So they can’t work together any more!  And now Kangana is out and Alia is in.

So, let’s unpack the creepiness of this.  First, Hrithik is 20 years older than her.  Second, Aashiqui is her father’s series, so she is going to be all sexy as a way of living out her father’s vision of love.  Third, the first film in the series was partially based on the love story of her father and his first wife, her stepmother.  Fourth (and this really doesn’t have anything to do with Alia), the heroine in the first Aashiqui just gave an interview to FilmFare that was INSANE!  She left the industry to live in a remote ashram where the Guru taught his disciples through sex?

On the whole, I am happy for Alia.  She’s a great actress, she seems to really have herself together in her personal life, and the AIB skit she did was brilliant.  I just wish some of these older actors were willing to take fatherly roles, so she could act opposite them without squicking me out.

  1. You can set your mind at rest about the Gauri Shinde film.Alia is not cast as SRK’s love interest in the movie. His character is there to offer some advice to Alia’s character at a critical juncture. Considering that SRK is THE ‘King of Love’ it probably has something to do with her love life.Alia is cleverer and media savvy than most people realise(regardless of the Coffee with Karan debacle)-she constantly finds a way to stay in the lime-light.

I was so looking forward to Hrithik-Sonam pairing for Aashiqui 3.They had such intense chemistry in the Honey Singh version of Dheere dheere and there was some talk about casting them in Aashiqui 3.

    • Thank goodness! I was so worried about Shahrukh opposite someone just a few years older than his daughter.

Alia is one of those people that I figure must have learned how to handle the industry by osmosis from childhood. You can’t by raised by Mahesh Bhatt with Pooja as your big sister and not know how to handle the media!

Right, Sonam! I remembered there was someone between Kangana and Alia, but I couldn’t remember who. I wonder if Sonam opted out because post-Neerja she only wants to play leads? She was heading that way anyway with Khoobsurat and all her self-produced stuff.

  2. ” “Hole,” as something I haven’t entered recently . . . ” — Did Karan really say that??? (see minute 7:05 of AIB skit).
