First day figures are out! And it looks really good! Which is great, because it is a really really good movie, and I want it to make money, so more people make really really good movies.
Everyone is pretty much reporting the same figures, 19.2 crore on the first day. Which, for a non-holiday Friday, is really good! And, it matches almost exactly the projections, which were 20 crore. Which means the distributors will be happy. And, that’s almost as good as Dilwale, which made 21 crore on the first day!
So, what does this mean? First, by golly Shahrukh can still open a movie! Doesn’t matter if there are no other stars, no songs, no easily promotable plot, he will still guarantee a big fat opening!
Secondly, they don’t actually mean anything, because this is just people buying a ticket because Shahrukh’s name is on the poster. The real question is how it is going to do over the next few days, and next weekend. My hope, since it is a really really good movie, is that it pulls a Neerja, and just runs and runs and runs, and people just keep coming to it. And then people start making more movies like this, ones that take a risk and are actually good, and don’t just throw money wildly at the screen and think that will be enough to make more money.
