Ha! The twist I thought might have been hinted at by the trailer is the twist! Aamir trains his girls just like he would if they were boys, but then they grow up and want to be women and it all gets complicated.
I love this! Because it’s not just about boys and dresses and getting “pretty”. It’s about, kind of, normalizing her life. Still what in India would be considered “short” hair, but not the extreme buzz cut. Not running after boys, but learning to enjoy when they look at her. Mostly just letting herself be happy, be joyful, just a little.
Also, in a different movie, she would fall in love with her friend here and this whole thing would be a love song. Okay, it kind of looks like a love song already really. The only reason I don’t think it is in actual fact is because the real life person married a man.
“… because the real life person married a man.” Which doesn’t prove anything either way. 🙂

Good point! I guess I would change it to be “it would be an odd movie if there is a whole same-sex romance and then they interrupt it and suddenly introduce a male romantic lead for her to marry, and at the same time it would be an odd movie if they introduced the idea of romance and then failed to bring in the actual romantic figure she married.”
