Update from My Twitter Feed: Explanation for SRK’s Silence, Amitabh is All Our Grandpa’s

This isn’t “news” as such, this is just cute stuff people have tweeted or re-tweeted.  Mostly Amitabh, who seems to have gone a little baby mad the past few days.

First Shahrukh, who has been a bit off the radar lately (besides pre-taped TED segments, and a couple of brief TED related tweets).  Which is explained by this tweet:

He also just re-tweeted this, I find his re-tweet cute, but I also really like the original video:

Completely unrelated to anything newsworthy, Amitabh has suddenly started re-tweeting THE CUTEST baby videos.  I guess now that Aaradha is 5, his Grandpa biological clock is ticking again.

First video, baby and puppies (really, do click the link):

Second video, longest one (still under a minute), but worth it:

Third video (my favorite), baby and food and helmet.  No comment from Amitabh, because I guess the video just says it all:

And this is just a sample!  There are like three other videos I didn’t even post.  Someone get this man a baby!  His hormones are out of control.

Meanwhile, Taran Adarsh just keeps tweeting industry news and box office figures, BORING.  So I’m not reporting any of that.

And that is my entire twitter feed, hot @iamsrk videos and photos and @SrBachchan retweeting baby videos and a little bit of box office figures from @taran_adarsh.  @BeingSalmanKhan will sometimes pop by with something insane and random, and @aamir_khan has his bimonthly tweet that is very dignified and kind of dull.  And that’s it!  I hear from no one else!

You should all imitate me, I highly recommend this version of twitter.  A little very exclusive oasis in the insanity.  Whenever I try moving out of it, I just get alarmed and unhappy for days on end.

    • Ibrahim Khan is the one that kills me! He was such a funny looking wacky kind of pre-teen, and now suddenly he is all “serious” all the time. This is why I like teaching the 8-12 year olds in Sunday School, old enough to have a conversation but young enough to still show emotion.

  1. Is this the place to propose a conspiracy theory that Aryan is physically incapable of smiling? Because I don’t think I’ve ever seen him not looking sad. Alternate theory-he has no/really messed up teeth and is constantly trying to hide them.

    • If messed up teeth stopped people from smiling, Ajay Devgan would have his lips sewn together.

For the other theory, here is the last time Aryan smiled on camera, age 2:

      And mere months later:

  2. OK, my mind was blown earlier when I was listening to the Bollywood Project podcast and they casually mentioned that Hrithik and Shweta Bachchan Nanda were together? I guess they were together way back briefly, but have rekindled something? This is weird! Have you heard this?

    • Yep! It’s a consistent rumor, so I am putting it in the “maybe” pile, rather than the “definitely” of Madhuri and Sanjay Dutt or the “definitely not” of Karan and Shahrukh.

I first ran across it back when he issued his first Kangana denial, there was a blind item somewhere saying he only did it because Amitabh forced him to if he wanted to keep seeing Shweta. Which kind of seems like something Amitabh would insist on, a clear statement that the man courting his daughter is not caught up with someone else.

Shweta married 3 years before Hrithik, but they are the same age, so in theory they could have had a thing as teenagers, and I am sure they knew each other from film family parties and stuff. Hrithik’s marriage was on the rocks for a long time before the divorce, a couple of years at least of Suzanne moving out and moving back and so on. I never believe in anything as simple as “he cheated, marriage ended”, but there are rumors that she didn’t like living so close to his family (in the same apartment complex), stress with him working, her career taking off, all kinds of things in addition to rumors that he was cheating on her and possibly vice versa, and all of that went on for a couple years before the divorce announcement. He could easily have had a brief thing with Shweta during one of their trial separations. Shweta’s marriage has also been over for a long time in a very quiet Bachchan-Kapoor kind of way. Nothing public or scandalous, the families are still close and very respectful to each other, but Shweta has been more or less living in Bombay for a long time while her husband is in Delhi and the kids are in boarding school or shuttling between.

If these were normal people, I would find it totally reasonable for two middle-aged single parents who have known each other a long time and maybe dated in the past, and who aren’t ready for another marriage, to start a pleasant little background thing. So yes, I can see it. Especially since this faint rumor keeps popping up in the oddest places.

But on the other hand, it is such a very faint rumor, and there are no photos, and certainly Shweta isn’t looking into getting a divorce, and no one close to them seems to be slipping up or implying things (like with Adi and Rani, or Sunny and Dimple, where it was clearly just accepted among the film people even if they were paying lipservice to it not being true in front of the media). So maybe it is just a persistent rumor based on nothing.

I get the feeling, again based on nothing, that even if it is true, it is more of a stopgap thing while they both recover from dead marriages and raise their kids. I could even see both of them going back with their spouses years from now, the way Babita and Randhir or Neetu and Rishi broke up and then very quietly got back together. If this was truly a grand passionate love affair, they would be going public with it, at least within the industry

      • If he doesn’t get back with Susanne (which I kind of hope for) I think it would be really cool if down the line when she’s finally “allowed” to divorce her husband, that she and Hrithik end up together. Weird to think that he and Aishwarya who have some of the best chemistry ever on screen may end up with two siblings. It’s such a small weird world.

        • I kind of hope for him to get back with Suzanne too. They are such great co-parents and divorced partners.

I don’t think Shweta will ever be allowed to divorce her husband. But I don’t think it will make much difference, Dimple for instance never got a divorce either, she just left her husband, built her own independent life, and started a relationship with another man that has lasted 30 years now (latest story is that Sunny is helping to launch her nephew, clearly he is still part of the family even if they both are/were married to other people). I don’t get the feeling that there is anything horrible in Shweta’s marriage, it’s not like Karisma’s where it felt just toxic and she really needed legal protections and separation from her husband. I think her parents might even prefer for her to have a semi-public relationship with a man who is not her husband while still legally married than to actually get a divorce.

    • Aw, he’s got a sweet smile! It makes him look like a little boy. Which is probably why he doesn’t smile on camera, because he wants to be all grown up and manly.

      • Thanks for sharing these, Claudia! I think, for whatever reason, he’s a bit insecure about his smile, or it’s just that he’s more comfortable putting on a cool face than a smiling face for staged photos, or in public. Fake smiles can look really weird if one isn’t good at doing them on cue.

        • I was just looking at old FilmFare photos and I noticed that Gauri shifted from a real smile (which is very similar to Aryan’s, now that I think of it) to a “fake” smile as the years went by. Which is good, I think when she was doing a real smile everyone would give her a hard time for not smiling if she didn’t feel like smiling, and would watch her face for emotion, and blah! But now she is entirely opaque, always the same appropriate smiling expression.

So perhaps Aryan went the same way, learned to put on a “photo face” for the media, only it was easier for him to be expressionless than anything else. And then there’s Suhana who is still so delightfully open in her expressions, to the point that I want to wrap her up in a blankie and give her popcorn and let her watch scary movies at a sleepover with her friends, because she looks just like every other fragile teenage girl I know.
