29 Months Until the Blog Goes Away-Reminder to Help Promote

The first time I put up one of these, I headlined it “want me to keep blogging?” which freaked people out that I might be considering not continuing.  I wasn’t them, but I am now, because I am off track of my 5 year plan, and I’ve only got 29 months to make up time.

In case you haven’t noticed, I’m not blogging for “fun”, although it is fun, I’m blogging like I am starting a small business.  And so I gave myself a series of benchmarks and the ability to cut my losses if I don’t hit them.  And right now I am not on track to hit my 5 year goal, 200,000 views a month/50,000 visitors.  I’m about a quarter of the way there and I need to be halfway.  More disturbing, my growth has stopped dead for the past 6 months.  Which means I am on track to put up a nice farewell series of posts in 29 months, keep the blog active for a while so you all have a place to come and hang out, and then fully shut down.

Now is the part where you (hopefully) are thinking “that’s terrible!  DCIB is wonderful and I want it to stick around”.  If you are thinking that and want to help, the MOST IMPORTANT THING you can do is post links back to me in comments on other sites.  It’s guaranteed to get me new viewers.

Now, if you want more information, you can read on.

The first deadline was after one month, to make sure I would have enough to say and find at least one reader outside of my personal circle (Hi Sal!).

The next was after one year, to make sure I had the time and energy to keep going, and that my audience was steadily growing.  Which it was.

And the next is 5 years, my audience needs to be big enough that I can afford a web designer to get me off of WordPress and to pay for server space, pay an accountant to help me incorporate as some sort of a business, and (most important) hire someone a couple hours a month to help with social media promotions.

And right now, I am way way way off.  My views dropped like a stone back in December and just barely started crawling back up again in February and March, and now I’ve been on a plateau for the past 3 months.  So, unless I get a sudden bump within the next 29 months, I’ll close up shop and move on to other challenges.

I’ve been a fan and a follower of soooooooooooo many websites that suddenly mysteriously disappeared, so I thought I would tell you well in advance what was happening.  It’s no great mystery, I can’t keep dumping massive amounts of time into something that doesn’t pay off.  So I’ve got 29 months, if I get another big jump forward in one way or another, AWESOME! I love this job and I want to keep doing it.  If I am off track, then I sadly move on and look for new opportunities.  Spend 6 hours a day writing a novel, or going back go grad school, or volunteering to save the world, something different.

Not really sure what you can do to help me stick around, I ask every month for help with social media promotions, and comments on other blogs, but that’s not really fair, it’s not your responsibility to promote me.

But if you do want to help out, that would be appreciated, every little bit helps.  The MOST IMPORTANT WAY TO HELP is to put comments and mentions up on other blogs, message boards, Facebook posts, youtube comments, every other internet community you participate in.  It’s the only thing that seems to get me new viewers.

    • Nope, 24 hours apart. Always 24 hours apart, every 15th and 16th of the month.

      • I’m adding comments to all the Race 3 reviews I can find on line suggesting there’s an interesting insight found in the DontCallItBollywood review. You should get a thousand new views soon.

  1. Hey there! I shared your blog today to my Malayalam language learning groups. Do you have an Instagram? I could try to link you on there as well.
Thanks for all your work. I need to get around to commenting on the films I’ve watched lately.

    • Thank you! I don’t have an Instagram, but i am thinking of making one just to put up images of one line or something from a post to get people to click through to the blog. Or if you are super bored, you could do that too!

      • I posted a link in my Instagram but unfortunately it doesn’t hotlink it there. I use my personal insta to get some traffic to my blog, as I can hotlink it in my bio.

I think Instagram is a great way to get followers and the posts themselves dont take long to make. And it’s free:)

If you ever make one, my mallu page is @eli.kutty 😉

        • I just spent 40 minutes trying to make a post and still failed. All I want is to put up an image of a movie poster with text superimposed on it including “dontcallitbollywood.com”, and it’s surprisingly difficult. And after that I will have to email it to myself, open it on my phone, save it on my phone, and then load it and hope people actually make the effort to type in “dontcallitbollywood.com” to a search box and find their way to this website.

anyway, it just confirms what I suspected, instagram (shockingly) doesn’t actually want to make it easy to put up more complicated content that would direct you to actually get off of instagram. Same way twitter doesn’t want you to get off of twitter, and Facebook doesn’t want you to get off of Facebook, and tumblr doesn’t want you to get off tumblr, and quora doesn’t want you to get off quora, and so on and so on. I’ll keep trying, but I will also keep resenting them 🙂

  2. Well, I just started reading your posts. Disappointed to see you go. Anyways, what are ou writing about – The Novel?
