Attention Attention Attention! I watched Something Something and was going to review it today, and then Section 377 knocked it right off the schedule. So I decided to move it out a week and give you all advance warning, in case you wanted to watch it before I reviewed it. It’s on Prime, the review will go up sometime on the 9/13.
Something Something is a light rom-com with Siddharth. It’s not as good as his best, but it’s not as bad as his worst. And it’s got some of that specific office worker humor that I enjoy, and some great gags about Siddharth’s family.
Plus, who doesn’t love Siddharth acting hapless in love?

Aye aye, captain! I’ll give it a go. 🙂

Good luck! Siddharth is cute, but the movie isn’t all that.

You are probably right, but I’ve been meaning to watch Siddhartha again after RDB and never took the opp, even though his south career has flourished since then.
If you have any favorite Sid South movies to recommend, I’ll keep them in mind.

He has some Marathi movies too, right?

My favorites are Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana and Bommarillu! Oh My Friend and Love Failure are fun too though.

Is this movie the one with Trisha? The poster shows Hansika, so I’m confused.

i was confused too! i think they want you to be confused because the one with trisha is a better movie. that one is two words that start with “n” and has a song “somethng something”. this one is far more recent and not as good.

Hmm, I thought you’re going to review that Trisha movie directed by Prabhu Deva – Nuvvosthanante Nenoddantana.
Something Something was dubbed from Tamil and not a good movie

Nope, different movie!
The Trisha-Siddharth movie I already reviewed here: https://dontcallitbollywood.com/2016/11/13/nuvvostanante-nenoddantana-so-cute-a-childhood-love-story-between-teenagers/
The Tamil dubbed Something Something is a remake of that movie and the original name is something else. This is a third movie, Siddharth and Hansika, from 2013 I think. Pleasant rom-com, not as good as Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana, but not as bad as the Tamil Something Something (from what I can tell).

I’ve literally never heard of this movie before! I quickly looked up wiki summary and it sounds terrible. I’m gonna skip this and watch Angamaly Diaries instead for Monday.

I never would have heard of it either, but it’s on Prime so it popped up. It’s not bad, very watchable, but I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it.

It can be Thursday Tamil as well 🙂 and for those who were as confused as me, it’s the dubbed version of the Tamil film Theeya velai seyannum kumaru.

Looks like it wasn’t a dub, but an actual reshoot. I wondered about that because Brahmandram is the second lead in the Telugu version and I don’t think I have heard of him working in Tamil?

Ok, this movie was simultaneously shot in both Tamil and Telugu. The Telugu version has Brahmanandam and the Tamil version has Santhanam in it. I only know this because I was looking for this movie way back in like 2015 when I was obsessed with Samantha and read that she did a cameo in this movie. But I could never find the Telugu version of this movie at that time. I don’t know if I have time this week but I’ll try to check this movie out, especially if Samantha is in it.

Samantha is in it, for about 5 minutes.

Ah, that makes sense. The Tamil movie was time-pass & what I remember is that more than Siddharth or Hansika, it was a Santhanam movie. He was the center piece & kinda carried the movie. I can’t imagine Brahmanandam doing the same role in Telugu. That would be plain torturous to watch.
M, why did u pick this movie, that too the Telugu version?

I had exactly two hours to watch a movie, and it was there on Prime. I didn’t have time to try to find something better. This is my highly scientific process of movie selection sometimes, “let’s turn on the TV and watch whatever is recommended because there’s no time for second thoughts”. Oh, and Sid looked cute in the poster.

That last line made perfect sense.

Margaret, there’s a Telugu film called Oh My friend with Siddharth, Hansika and Shruti Hassan. Quite unlike the kuch kuch hota hai like films where the best friends fall in love, it has a unique take.

But I hate Shruti Haasan! She makes me want to throw my TV through the window. Maybe I wait to watch this until I need to buy a new TV anyway.

Haha! Well then you better avoid it because the movie revolvrd around her and Siddharth 😛

I love Siddharth, but watched half an hour of the Tamil movie and stopped right away. What Shruti Hassan is to you, Hansika is to me! Girl can’t get her lip sync right even after 50+ movies.

At least in the Tamil version, she fades away after about an hour and Brahmanandran shows up to become the second lead instead of her.
