Next Friday Classic Announcement: Once Upon a Time in Mumbai

I love this movie.  I love it so much, I was sure I had already reviewed it.  But no, turns out I haven’t!  So I get to now, and you can watch it before hand.  It’s available on either the ErosNow channel on Amazon, or itunes.

This is the movie that made me sit up and say “Wow, Emraan Hashmi is amazing!” and also made me sit up and say “Wow, Ajay Devgan has still got it”.  Plus you get to see Kangana back when she was playing love interest roles, and the soundtrack is amazing, and it is a fairly painless way to learn a little bit of Bombay criminal history.

This is also the movie that made me first learn to hate Randeep Hooda and his stupid face, but you may not agree with me on that.  And even if you hate his face, you can still enjoy the way his uniform fits.

And, it has one of the all time best trailers, which does accurately promise what the movie will be like:

    • I was obsessed with this trailer when it first came out, watched it over and over again. It’s just so good. And you get the movie it promises, larger than life characters and period costumes and all the rest.

It’s not really violent, there’s fight scenes and gunfights as part of the plot (you can see that from the trailer, it’s obviously going to be a gangster movie), but nothing in loving close-up, you know? The fight embedded in this song gives you a good idea of the level of violence:

  1. I loved this movie, and I’m planning to watch it, but I basically feel about Emraan Hashmi the way you do about Randeep Hooda. Stupid, stupid face, made worse with the period facial hair. This has nothing to do with his acting, and I’m really hoping that as he ages his face will get less stupid so I can enjoy his films more.

    • At least in this film they do a good job of using his unusual looks, the sort of baby face versus Ajay’s thousand year stare really work wonders.

Also, all we need to do is find a third person who hates Ajay’s stupid face, and we will have created the perfect anti-audience for this film.

    • Oh, the second one is terrible! Akshay and Sonali are good, but Sonakshi and Imraan are both terribly miss-cast. And there isn’t nearly the strong themes and narrative of the first one.
