The final 12 days of Christmas post! Which I could probably skip, except it’s such a fun one I can’t resist.
Be warned, this will be very Shahrukh heavy. Partly because I am most familiar with the Shahrukh genre of films, and partly because for some reason directors really like giving him drums. Maybe because he isn’t a very good dancer? “Saanson Ki Mala” from Koyla.
And another Shahrukh! Although this one the choreography required him to dance too, so a lot of this is less “drumming” and more “holding a drum while dancing”. “Soni Soni” from Mohabbatein.
A modern kind of drumming! And a great drum-dance duet. The “Kathak Dance” from Dil To Pagal Hai.
Okay, forcing myself to move on, Salman with a similar drum set in Kahin Pyaar Na Ho Jaye.
The Deol boys! I love this song, it is like the platonic ideal of a Bhangra song. Really, watch it if you don’t know it! “Dhoom Dhoom Luck Luck” from Dillagi.
Do you know who is on the drums in this song? Amjad Khan! Gabbar Singh himself! Makes me so happy. “Laila O Laila” from Qurbani.
Okay, there aren’t any “drums” as such in this song, but there is that moment when they drum their fingers on the bar, which is a kind of drumming. “Gallan Goodiyaan” from Dil Dhadakne Do.
Salman isn’t drumming himself in this, but he is so surrounded by drums, I decided it still counts. And anyway, I love this song. “No 1 Punjabi”
Oh Aamir! Back before you were in good movies! “Disco Dandia” from Love Love Love.
And I’m back to Shahrukh! Because I forgot this song at the beginning. “Mourya Re” from Don.
Which reminded me of another Ganesha sequence, this time with Hrithik and a very very big drum, “Deva Shree Ganesha” from Agneepath.
And finally, a really really terrible song, that is also super catchy. And involves a whole chorus of dancers with drums! “Bal Brahmachari”.
