Friday Classics Announcement: A Death in the Gunj!

This is mostly to force myself to watch it. But maybe it will also force some of you to watch it! And then we can all admire the period clothing and Konkona’s directing and become fans of Vikrant Massay.

Oh, and it is on Amazon Prime! BONUS!!!!

    • Watching it now, it’s not that slow (although I had to resort to Wiki to figure out the family relationships). But it has a very Cassavetes feel to it, feels like I am actually trapped with this dysfunctional family and can’t leave. Too real! Family reunion flashbacks!!!! So painful!!!! Glad I can take a break and go “ahhhh, I live alone.”

  2. Really a wonderful movie! I saw it in the theater 3 times, taking different friends each time.

Too western for Indians, and not Indian enough for westerners, this movie never found a distributor! All showings in the bay area were individually sponsored, even though this place is desiville! So glad it will live on on Amazon and make some money for all involved.

    • How could you watch it 3 times????? I could only manage it once, it was like being trapped in the worst family reunion of my life for an hour and 45 minutes. And I was so glad when it was over and I survived it.

Of course, that’s why the film is brilliant and deserves a wider audience and all of that, it really makes you feel what is happening. But I am not strong enough to watch it again. I can handle the physical violence in Agneepath no problem, but the emotional violence in this just makes me cover up my eyes and go “no no no no no no make it stop!”
