I was all set with a name on the weekend, even got tags made up. One of the names from the posts I had put up for you all, it wasn’t the top name but it got a fair number of votes, plus a lot of people in real life liked it. And then I brought Dog in to work on Monday and they all hated it and refused to use it. So I was back to square one. But now we finally have a solution!

So then they went to their Internet and a random dog name generator suggested “Alfie Barkeridge”. Which everyone at work liked, but I wasn’t crazy about.

So we have been going through naming by committee, unable to find one thing everyone could agree on. We went through Radar, Gus, Archie, Bosco, Baxter, and tons of others I won’t bore you with. I didn’t like “Alfie” because I have a hard time saying it, there’s no hard syllable so you can’t snap it out when you need to stop the dog or call the dog. I suggested “Albie” instead, but no one at work really loved that.

Until! I was googling Albie and realized it is a nickname for “Albus”. Which means, of course, I would be naming the Dog after Dumbledore! Who could object to that? The answer is “no one”, no one could object to that. “Albus” also means “shining, white”. Which Dog definitely is not. But then, I am, so that’s okay.

The full name is “Albus Baxter Barkeridge”. The “Baxter” is because that is the name of the town in Kentucky he came from. And the whole thing really evokes an old southern eccentric, doesn’t it? Old uncle Albus, small and with a funny overbite, never married or had kids, but always wears a perfect white shirt and bowtie and has a big pink bed.

Albus. I love it! Also, bless you for using the correct film Dumbledore. RIP Richard Harris :,(

“Albie” for short. Now we just have to get him to respond to it.

Baxter would have been really cool . . . and with a back story! Any chance of reconsidering? Never mind! It’s your choice! OK, I’ll start practicing saying Albie.

Too late! The office refused Baxter, and they all loved “Albie”

Tiger would have been a great name for a striped dog!

Love it! I had a cat named Buster who met a bad end after a coyote encounter so there is bad juju attached to that name anyway. Albus is magical, literally

And I feel like “Albus” is a name he can grow into. Right now he is a little dumb baby, but in just a year or two, he will be a mature wise slow dog with a totally different personality. The transition from “Albie” to “Albus” should be easy.

Would have NEVER thought of Albus. But I like it; Albie, too. Also like the full monty: Albus Baxter Barkeridge. Pedigreed dogs get names like that: Dutchess Erika Kenkler Von Hushenburgh, or the like. It’s good to see a pitty mix get the same respect. Congratulations.

My parents both had dogs with long fancy pedigree names when they were growing up, but they were “really” called “Prinnie” (for Princess something something) and “Cracker” (no relation to the real name, but they got him on the 4th of July so they named him after a firecracker)
