Huh, kind of surprised I haven’t reviewed this film yet! Oh well, better late than never. Also, better waiting until it is easily available on youtube, for free, legally, with subtitles. And on some Netflixes, but not in America.
Baghban! An old-fashioned family drama, meaning the melodrama is turned up to 11, and the situation is unique and interesting. If you try to apply the standards of today, you will be bored and dismissive. But if you give yourself over to a good old-fashioned soaper with great performances, you will love it. Maybe it wouldn’t have worked with Amitabh and Hema at the center, but they are at the center, so it’s all okay.
Watch out, there’s a slow start. But once Amitabh is singing in a phone booth, it all goes along with addictive drama.
Is that Mahima Chaudhry? I’ve not seen her in anything but Pardes. This looks like a good one, with Amitabh and Hema at interesting ages. I’ll do my best to see it before Friday!

Yep, it’s Mahima! She and Salman have small but important cameo roles. Mostly it is Hema and Amitabh’s movie. I think you would really like it! Especially if you sometimes feel resentful of young whippersnappers.
