Discussion Post: I need help with my Pride week FanFic! Give me a couple you want to see together onscreen

I love my Pride week FanFic. Let’s me put together unusual couples in unusual plots and imagine an India that is open and safe and welcoming. Join me!

UPDATE: Popka Superstar already suggested the PERFECT lead in the comments, Harsh Kapoor. I just need to find his perfect match(es). So another discussion comment, What Man Do We Want to See Harsh Kapoor Romance Onscreen?

Related image
These are all Harsh, I couldn’t pick just one photo. He is gooooooood in black and white

I can’t remember if it was for Pride or just in general, but last year Procrastinatrix and I came up with the dreamiest Irrfan-Shahrukh romance. I’m not sure if we can top it this year, but we can try.

What same-sex couples do you want to see together? Vidya-Tabu? Aamir-Salman? Tovino-Prithviraj? Anything is possible in our imaginations!

Imagine this song at Vidya’s coming out party with her supportive lover Neha Dhupia. We can do that in our minds! There are no rules!

How about plots? College romance? Cricket team romance? Housewife and movie star romance?

If this show doesn’t have a same-sex passionate player romance, it is a major missed opportunity.

  1. None of these will be any use to you, but Ayushmann Khurrana/Rajkummar Rao, Harshvardhan Kapoor/absolutely anyone maybe Ranveer they could try to out-edge each other, Kriti Sanon/Sonam Kapoor, Juhi Chawla/Madhuri Dixit, Kareena Kapoor/idk I just need her to be in a catty lesbian epic, Katrina Kaif/Alia Bhatt, Govinda/Ranveer/Jim Sarbh. I thought of a great one for Aamir a while back but now I’ve forgotten.

    • Why would this be of no use to me???? They all make perfect sense! And I already did a lightly fictionalized version of the Ranbir-Alia-Kat love triangle, which is practically begging to have a lesbian twist (both women realize they were only with Ranbir because he was a surrogate for the other woman, Ranbir ends up sad and alone).

The only one I reject is Ayushmann and Rajkummar, I just don’t see the chemistry. Harsh Kapoor and Absolutely Anyone, YES!!!!! A thousand times YES!!!!

      • Didn’t you ship them in Bareilly? They can be smart arse cops or lawyers on opposite sides of a case. You need something to give them a little grit.

        Alia/Kat are perfect, full stop.

lol I wonder if anyone can find someone for Harsh, I have difficulty picturing it myself and yet it seems so right.

I forgot my most wanted pairing, Govinda/Tiger! They can be a trashy couple conning people out of money, or part of a performing circus or something, I need it.

        Like

        • No! No chemistry in Berielly! I shipped Kriti and her friend more than Ayushmann and Rajkummar. On the other hand, Rajkummar and Sonam’s brother in Ek Ladki, that I could see. A kind of ugly hate-love thing that turns suddenly sweet and understanding when they reunite after years of personal growth.

Maybe Harsh and Harsh? This Harsh?

          • lol Kriti and her friend are another good one. I thought Ayushmann and Rajkummar worked well together, but it was the conflict that did it.

Ek Ladki was all about Rajkummar and Juhi for me, they were on fire together.

            Pic isn’t working!

          • That looks good, I’ll put it on my list.

I looked at some songs, I think it might work? He’s so cute and good at looking tortured, other Harsh is so edgy, it could even be a really classic forbidden love story.

          • Oh oh! I’ve got it! Harsh R is a tormented gunda who works for a corrupt politician. Harsh K is the unwordly son of another corrupt politician. Harsh R kidnaps him under orders from his boss. They stay at a remote mountain cottage together. Harsh K tries to fight his way out, Harsh R easily stops him and then they suddenly kiss while fighting and never talk about it. A third group sends a gang to attack them and Harsh R fights to defend them and is injured, Harsh K takes care of him as he recovers, including singing to him the poems he has written. Finally, Harsh R gets the word to release Harsh K. Harsh K leaves regretfully.

Only after he is gone does Harsh R learn that Harsh K is being forced into a political marriage. And finds poems that Harsh K has written about him revealing his love for Harsh R. Harsh R rushes off on his motorcycle to save the man he loves. The second half of the film is the two of them separated slowly working to come back together. It ends with Harsh R bursting into the wedding hall, bruised and beaten with goons chasing him. Harsh K turns suddenly berserker, seeing the man he loves threatened, and fights his way to him. The two of them embrace and kiss in front of everyone. The bride’s family is furious and cancels the wedding, Harsh K confronts his father and points out that approving of this relationship will garner him as many votes as the alliance with the bride’s family would have, plus this way he is forming an alliance with Harsh R’s mentor. The happy ending is Harsh K and Harsh R forming a new political power block, Harsh K using his words and charisma to move the mobs, while Harsh R handles the dirty business on the back end.

          • Yes, this is perfect. You already had me at the tenderhearted goon part, but it’s the kidnapping and the poetry that really make this, I think. Plus, this is a pairing that really NEEDS motorcycles. And horses if at all possible.

  2. I suggest a love triangle with a twist – a heterosexual woman and a gay man are BFFs. Both fall in love with the same bisexual man without realizing it. Maybe each had a relationship with the man at a different time in a different city – now fate has brought all them back together face-to-face and all the old feelings have surfaced. The girl and the gay guy are in competition to win over this guy…the bisexual man is not an asshole playboy…he is kind and likable…you can see why both love him…but he is just torn between both of them and doesn’t want to hurt either person’s feelings…
Casting – the gay man can be Ranveer/Vicky, the girl can be Tapsee/Kriti, and the bisexual man can be Ayushman Khurana

    • Oh, interesting!!!!! I would do it that the woman and the man are engaged, it was arranged but they really like each other and she at least is totally in love. Her best friend comes for the wedding and only then realizes that the groom is a guy he had a magical three days with on vacation years earlier. They didn’t do more than share one magical good-bye kiss, but it always lingered in his mind. The three of them talk it out, the friends first instinct is to protect the bride from a fake wedding, but the groom reassures both of them that he is bi, not gay, and sincerely enjoys sex with the bride and is growing to love her as he gets to know her.

From then on, it is the usual wedding romance type thing, the three of them spend a lot of time together, the two guys end up going off together for picking out suits and stuff, maybe the friend helps him escape from his terrible bachelor party so they can have fun together, and they eventually realize they are deeply in love. But the wedding will make his family happy, and the bride happy, and he loves the bride a little bit too, and to admit his love for another man would have all these social upsets, why rock the boat? Only, the bride overhears the two of them talking the night before the ceremony and realizes they have the kind of deep soulmate love that she doesn’t have with the groom. And nobly steps aside at the last minute.

Basically, I want Mujshe Dosti Karogi/Hasee To Phasee/Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, but with a same sex couple in the mix.

And I would vote for Ranbir, Ranveer, and Dips for casting, in a cheeky little touch.

      • Hmmm, the whole plot of hetero-marriage breaking up is a little cliche…I would actually find it more refreshing if the two guys are the ones about to get married and the BFF Deepika shows up to be Ranveer’s best man…then she realizes that she and Ranbir had a Tamasha-style affair once and she has never forgotten him…she reminds Ranbir of the passion they shared…Ranbir is conflicted…go with passionate DP or marry Ranveer for the sweet, compatible, secure relationship…aka Sridevi’s Chandni dilemma…eventually DP sacrifices and gets the boys married off while wiping tears…final scene shows that as a wedding present she offers to carry the boys’ children setting us up for the sequel!

        • Oh my gosh that is so cute!!!! Especially the sequel idea.

I want to write the sequel just as it’s own thing. Oh oh! Love quadrangle!!!! Dips and Ranveer are best friends, but he is gay (or she is gay? One of them). They decide to have a baby together and pretend to be married so they can get help with the fertility treatments. Only, while they are pretending to be married, they both fall in love with other people. Other people who are conflicted because they think Dips and Ranveer are married. It’s all very confused and farcical and hidden secret romances. And we will add on some kind of threat like Dips falls in love with their fertility doctor so if she tells him/her the truth he/she will be honor bound to tell the clinic, and Ranveer falls in love with a police officer in the fraud unit so he is afraid to tell him.

Oh heck, let’s make them both gay! Oh! And this can be an older romance! Like, John Abraham and Vidya Balan are the central couple, they both want children and are running out of time and don’t think a relationship will ever happen, that’s why they decided to have a baby together. But then Vidya and their nice smart funny fertility doctor Kareena fall in love, and John and their nice young neighbor police officer Rajkummar Rao fall in love.

  3. Oh no! Not Harsh! Why him? And why does everybody think he’s a perfect fit for a same sex romance? DCIB is destroying my future rainy day time-outs when I stare out the window and fantasize about Harshvardan Kapoor and me, dancing under the stars back when my age and waist size were the same.

    • Just because he’s gay in one movie plot doesn’t mean he has to be straight in another. Or in your fantasies. Personally (and I suspect this is true for many women), I kind of like occasionally fantasizing my straight hero into a gay romance.

      • I want Prithviraj vulnerable like in Koode and Tovino kind and happy. Set in a village so there would be this prohibited love and long gazes.

        Like

        • Prithviraj is the shy oldest son of the local big family. His father died when he was a teenager, he is responsible for his younger brother and sister and his older mother and grandmother. It’s a bit of a joke that he never married, but he always says he has too many responsibilities for that. Tovino is the new principal for the school that Prithviraj helped found. They interact a lot because Prithviraj is involved in running the school. Tovino starts to see that Prithviraj is gay, and begins to fall in love with him. Prithviraj is tormented by his feelings, but also intrigued by this world of freedom and happiness Tovino represents. They start a secret relationship, but Prithviraj cuts it off when his grandmother has a heart attack after seeing them together. He is tortured and guilt ridden and heartbroken. Tovino leaves for school break but writes him a letter at being his true self and not being afraid to love. Prithviraj learns his little sister is in love with a boy of a lower caste and his mother tries to break them up. Seeing her misery, Prithviraj realizes this is wrong, and it was wrong to separate him and Tovino as well. He arranges his sister’s marriage and sends Tovino a card inviting him. And then greets him with a hug and kisses him in front of everybody.

          Something like that?

  4. Arjun Rampal + Milind Soman
… Or maybe they are my fantasy 3-way haha!

… Remove the personal baggage/history, and they are a nicely matched pair, aesthetically and temperamentally.

      Abhay + Naseerudin
Yes they were father and son in znmd, but I see a May December thing between them

      Now let’s give Naseer’s wife a partner…

Reena pathak shah + parineeti chopra
Parineeti has a strong almost unisex personality, Reena’s acerbic wit, intelligence, confidence, perceptiveness, and smile make her very older-woman hot.

      • Ah, no! Farhan and Naseeruddin were father and son, there is no impediment to a Naseer- Abhay romance.

How about Anil & Rajkummar? They had really good chemistry in Fanney Khan even though the movie sucked. Anil is a widower and Rajkummar is an out gay younger man who helps Anil come out of the closet and into a loving late in life romance.

          • I’ve been thinking about pairing him with an actual intellectual actor like Jim Sarbh but it would never work because they’d fight each to the death first. This is why I think he would be better with a brawny non-intellectual, but not Govinda because they would also fight each other to the death. You need someone with just enough clout for him to respect them yet not the brains to realise they’re actually smarter than him.

          • How about this?

Aamir and John are long time partners, both as police officers and in their personal lives. Aamir is the thoughtful educated highly intelligent officer, John is his muscley constable with his own brand of intelligence. They have a nice little life together, share an apartment, trade off cooking dinner every night, John makes fancy healthy food and makes fun of Aamir’s basic daal but still enjoys it, they sit in front of the TV in companionable silence every night, sometimes they fight over the remote. On Sundays, they go to their favorite cafe for ice cream and then walk on the beach.

Then, at work, they stumble across a Massive Conspiracy. Their team works obsessively to gather evidence and solve the puzzle. They gather at John and Aamir’s every night to pour over case files. It starts to affect their sex life, at one point in the middle of the case, Aamir surprises John with a hotel room getaway for the anniversary of when they moved in together. John protests about the case, Aamir says they can afford one night off. Of course, that is the night their team is attacked, one killed and one seriously wounded (intercut with the romantic sexy song between Aamir and John, oh the irony!). Aamir and John are now more dedicated than ever. Their enemies pull strings and threaten them and get them put on suspension for their relationship, John and Aamir (now in old-fashioned civilian clothes) keep investigating, with the support of their team who are still secretly helping them. They finally catch the Big Bad but in the course of the arrest, John is shot throwing himself in front of a bullet aimed for Aamir. He wakes up in the hospital to find the whole team around them, TV news talking about the medal he is going to get, and so on. Aamir chases everyone else out, and then gives a sincere tearful speech about how he didn’t realize what they had until he thought he had lost it, and proposes. Fast forward 3 months, John is receiving a medal on crutches, Aamir is watching, John gives a speech about the importance of partnership and trust, and looks at Aamir and fingers his wedding ring, Aamir looks down and does the same thing with his matching ring. And, in a classic over the top filmi touch, the rings are made of the melted down bullet that John took for Aamir.

What do you think, Bollywood Newbie? My Aamir expert? Aamir in Talaash only instead of Rani he has his long term partner John? Slow, smart, mustache?

          • Ha, that all sounds amazing except you left out the part about Aamir planning this exquisitely detailed hotel getaway complete with rose petals on the bed and top flight champagne and caviar and when John says he prefers the daal Aamir throws an epic shit fit that devolves into a wrestling match between them and then Aamir weeps with frustration and John has to console him tenderly and apologize for not appreciating the effort he made and then they have really hot makeup sex until the news comes in about the attack.

            Like

          • Yes! Only, I would say that Aamir throws a fit and locks himself in the bathroom and then John gives a sincere speech through the door about how all he meant was, he would rather have their quiet evenings at home, sitting together watching TV and petting the dog (I don’t know why I didn’t realize that of course they have a dog, an aging big old mutt that they take with them on their Sunday beach walks, and sometimes fight over whose turn it is to take out in the morning). And then when Aamir still won’t come out, John teases that he will do the thing he can’t resist to make him come out, and does a big Desi Boyz style striptease. Aamir finally comes out, they kiss, and then they have sweet hotel make-up sex.
