Ready for a silly post? Of course you are! It’s a holiday (at least in America), we aren’t supposed to be thinking.
If you are doing Life Planning, which of the following Shahrukh professions would be your choice for a dating partner, a marriage partner, and someone you want to avoid entirely? Oh, and yes, you can marry multiple people. But on the other hand, you can’t have just sex with someone, it has to be a real dating relationship, or else marriage, or else avoiding entirely. If it’s just sex, what do you care what their job is?

Tour Guide

Okay, you ready for my choices?
Date: Tour Guide, reporter, private eye, cop, chef, teacher, thief, coach, ghost. I feel like I could learn interesting things from spending time with all of them, and yet we wouldn’t be a good life time match. Especially the ghost, SPOOKY!
Marry: Engineer-he can fix all my water problems. Psychiatriast-Can fix all my emotional problems, plus That House! Garage Owner-Can fix all my car problems, plus That House! Sweetshop owner-He owns a sweetshop, jalabis for life! Power Company Worker-the perfect stable job, and also another great house.
Avoid: Stable boy (I deserve better than that). Gangster, Crime Boss, Bootlegger, Gang Leader (too dangerous). Performer, pop star, choreographer, movie star (entertainment, so unreliable). Alcoholic, Failed Athlete (so irritating).
How about you?
My list is only so short because I’ve not seen the majority of movies, so here goes the list of what I have seen so far:
Chef – Avoid (he’s just too gullible and dumb)
Gang Leader – Date
Alcoholic – Difficult. I’d say marry because I really like him. I don’t blame him for his mental issues and I’d be willing to try to support him somehow. I don’t know. Tough call. I guess avoiding would be the wisest.
Crime Boss – Date
Movie Star – Date (can’t marry him as I have the feeling he’d be bored with romancing a single person after some time)
Failed Athlete – Marry (he’s obnoxious and cynical, but I like him. He’s okay, he’s great with children, he’s smart, just a little on the moody side)
Psychiatrist – Date and Marry (this is such a no brainer. Of course all of the good stuff for and with him)
Tour Guide – Date and Marry (same as above. What a guy. A little messed up, but that’s par for the course. No complaints. I’ll take him)

Ha! I like that you will avoid the chef for gullibility but have no problem having a relationship with criminals. Although I suppose that’s fine, you are just dating them, you can have some fun and leave before they get arrested.

Clarifying question: are we going simply by the profession or Shah Rukh’s persona while playing that profession. I need to take this question VERY seriously.

Both, i think. So you get the personality, but assume his profession won’t be changing. So you get to be married to Harry, but he is gone for weeks at a time leading tour groups and you never have much money or security.

Oh, to be looked at like that…he can be gone as long as he likes. Anyway, you said they will go back to Europe and open a travel agency….

I don’t know, moments of intense connection followed by weeks of lonely boredom while he is gone? Dealing with all his irritability after finishing his difficult tours? And everywhere you go together just feeling like work for him because he has to organize tickets and stuff? May not be worth it.

But as we have no idea how both will arrange their life after marriage, Harry is a tempting option for marriage. especially because he has a musical streak 🙂

Aha, that is the challenge! You have to assume their work will remain exactly the same post-marriage. So still traveling as a solo tour guide for weeks at a time while you are stuck in Frankfurt.
Although you are correct, you still would have Harry being musical. So he can be gone for 2 weeks, but then when he comes back you can go out and do kareoke.

Date: Performer, Dance/ choreographer Pop star, Chef, failed athlete (terrible date, great in bed)
Marry: Ghost, Punjabi Power, Tour guide, Garage owner, Sweet Shop owner….someone with a nice steady job and looks like Shah Rukh, please….Movie star (only if he’s like Shah Rukh in real life) Engineer for sure!! Garage owner and Coach for sure!!~~
Avoid; Gangster (no matter how sexy) Gang leader, Psychiatrist (not matter how cute..they can be an annoying bunch and very myopic about their own families)Bootlegger, thief, (see a theme here? I do not want my husband in jail or dead), Stable boy: mullet and no future….

Yes, very practical choices! Steady job is always the best in a husband. For just dating, not as important, but still not worth risking a criminal.
I might suggest still dating Jug, so you can get a little free therapy and enjoy his amazing house, before it all falls apart in an ugly emotional tangle.

Laughing at your description of Devdas’ profession – alcoholic 😀 Technically he IS a lawyer!
I’ll have to come back to this as it requires serious thought, but you left out the most important one – college failed brat about to inherit dad’s business – I’ll elope with him in a heartbeat! Also what about the businessman of KKHH, K3G?

Add them to the list! 🙂
Also Truck Driver in Chalte Chalte.
Helicopter Rescue person in Veer Zara.
I like the description of Ghost as a profession. Put that on your tax return!
A second profession in Happy New Year – Mud Covered Fighter.

I would never marry a Mud Covered Fighter! Besides the uncertainty of income, can you imagine the constant mess around the home?

I decided to skip all vague “businessman” jobs and only go for the real calling type of careers.

And of course there are some soldiers too – Main Hoon Naa and Jab Tak Hai Jaan.
Btw, the photos here are perfect Margaret. What a great range of characters he has played.

Soldiers are sad! I didn’t even want to give you the option of marrying them.

What about the journalist/radio reporter in DilSe…definitely dating material, but as I’m not a suicide-terrorist, I could also opt for marriage…always interesting things to narrate and in-between romantic trips in a canoe…(okay, I agree, I could become a widow with his penchant for dangerous situations…but then, I still can take Suri as my second husband)

It does seem to be an interesting and reliable job, good dinner table conversation. The downside is that he seems to be a bit of a thrill seeker attracted to dangerous situations, and his job will constantly give him the ability to volunteer for dangerous assignments.

The truck driver was adorable but he thrived on bickering…not for me. Now The KKKG businessman was rich with no effort as well as adorable. And if he moves back to INDIA and keeps the LONDON house, I’m in. Maya as a mother in law would be great, biut Amitabh as a father in law…. not so sure.

Plus, the truck driver is in a very unstable business that can go bankrupt in a heartbeat, adding greatly to marital stress.
The KKKG businessman’s job that seemed to have no effect on his day to day life (besides leaving for the office after a family breakfast and getting back home in time for a family dinner) is tempting.
