I still haven’t figured out my Friday Classic for next week. What’s a good movie based on the Independence Movement, or Gandhi, or Hrithik, or Tiger, that I haven’t yet reviewed? Oh, but I have figured out my Sunday ReRun for this week, you should all go watch Bang Bang because it is “homework”.
Bang Bang (Hotstar, youtube with no subs, einthusan)
My favorite movie of 2014/all time. The title accurately reflects what it is like. It is a big dumb action movie with Danny Denzongpa wearing ascots (because he’s evil) and Hrithik taking his shirt of and Katrina playing a ditzy damsel in distress. Also, the dancing is AMAZING.
Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy (in theaters)
Big BIG historical epic, Chiranjeevi and Amitabh and Vijay Sethupathi all working on the same movie. And SUDEEP! Oh, and Brahmanandam is there too, because that is The Law of Telugu Cinema. But you can just buy popcorn during his scenes. It’s releasing on October 1, I’ll be seeing it then or the next day and reviewing it ASAP. This one should get a really wide release, check theaters near you that don’t usually play Indian movies. And it should be an all family fun film, even those folks who usually role their eyes at Indian movies. I mean, just watch the trailer!
War (in theaters)
Not sure how big this release will be, but it’s YRF, they usually have good relationships with distributors. Anyway, as the most recent trailer said, Tiger and Hrithik Witness Them Dance Together On The Big Screen. How can you pass that up? It’s releasing October 2, I’ll be seeing it the day of release and reviewing it ASAP.
As an SRK fan, you are going to have to try and tackle “Hey Ram” one of these days. But it’s a real undertaking of a film!

Maybe compare and contrast with Birth of a Nation? Which is the worse apologia for violent racist extremists?

For Friday classics, any interest in Lagaan, 1942: A Love Story, or Sarfarosh? They all have interesting independence-y themes in them. Plus, all of them have a happy ending, which is rare in independence-based films.

I think I’ve reviewed all those already, but Lagaan. Maybe it’s time for Lagaan?

I’m eager to see how War will be. Looks good masala fun. Hope that Hritik will have good screen time. I would kill YRF if they make it all about Tiger jumping & running.

So long as Tiger doesn’t have a romance, I will be happy.
