October Hindi Film Releases: What Should We Watch, What Should We Skip?

Normally I say “skip nothing!” but October is a really crowded month! The problem is, it’s a month without any major holidays. So no big films that take all the screens in one weekend, just a bunch of tiny films that have to share screens.

October 2: War (Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff): Looks like a big action film with a couple songs, I vote you give it a chance!

October 11: The Sky is Pink (Priyanka Chopra and Farhan Akhtar): Sappy sappy TV movie plot, western style filming, skip it unless you really love Farhan Akhtar or crying over dead children.

October 11: Lootcase (Kunel Khemu, Vijay Raaz, Ranvir Shorey): crime comedy around a suitcase, great cast, not great buzz, may end up going straight to streaming at the last minute.

October 18: P Se Pyaar F Se Fyaar (Jimmy Shergill, Sanjay Mishra): a comedy directed by a politician, they always make the best comedies (sarcasm). You can probably avoid it, even though Jimmy Shergill is the best.

October 18: Ghost (Vikram Bhatt Director): this looks like a not very original horror movie, but Vikram Bhatt is directing and he has such a good track record that I almost want to check it out.

October 18: Laal Kaptaan (Saif Ali Khan): Probably a very very good dark comedy kind of film. Director made NH10 and Manorama Six Feet Under before this, Saif only does good movies (now), and it has been rescheduled twice (usually a sign of a movie so hot and weird no one wants it).

October 18: Yaaram (Pratiek Babbar): well, Pratiek is still doin’ stuff! Good for him. And this looks like a perfectly pleasant light little rom-com for those of you who like light little rom-coms.

October 25: Housefull 4 (Akshay Kumar, Ritiesh Deshmukh, Bobby Deol, Kriti Sonam): Yet another Housefull movie! But at least this one has a fun hook, a reincarnation comedy when Akshay has a vision of the past in which he and his friends were all with different women than they are now.

October 25: Saand Ki Aankh (Bhumi Pednakar and Taapsee Pannu): Great story idea, two sexagenarians become champion sharpshooters. Not great that they cast two 20-somethings to play the 60-somethings.

October 25: Made in China (Rajkummar Rau): Yet another impotence comedy! It’s never about fixing women’s sex problems, is it? It’s all penis penis penis in these things.

  1. I’m also happy to see that Pratiek Babbar works but this movie doesn’t look good. The poster is terrible and the trailer is not very professional in my opinion.
From 10 listed movies I’m interested only in War and Made in China, and that’s only if the reviews will be good.

I checked non-hindi releases too, and OMG there will be telugu movie RDX Love. It’s with the actress who made RX 100, the title is almost the same and there will be a lot of sex in it. It’s so unfair Kartikeya was offered good scripts after RX 100 and Payal Rajput continues making those B-grade skin-showing films if she did better job in RX 100.

In Tamil, Dhanush and Manju Warrier movie Asuran should be released this weekend.

    • I have lost all faith in Tamil and Telugu release schedules. IF the Dhanush and Manju movie comes out this weekend, I might try to check it out. But I’m not getting my hopes up.

      • At least this new Dhanush movie is not made by Gautham Menon, so it should be released on time.

I think malayalam releases are even more difficult to track. It’s hard to find any information about upcoming movies besides the title.

  2. I might watch War but it depends on reviews. I’m not interested in either Hrithik or Tiger and Vani is an eyesore. If it’s like Dhoom 3, I’m not interested. If it’s like Dhoom 2, I’ll watch.

The rest.. nah. I might watch The Sky is Pink when it comes on Prime or Netflix but I’m not paying for it. The rest I won’t watch even for free.

  3. I’d see War (I might actually see War), Lal Kaptaan (which looks super weird and like I definitely want to see it), maybe Vikram Bhatt and that Pratiek Babbar romcom to support romcoms. I just don’t want to encourage the other ones, much as I might want to watch Rajkummar talk about erections for three hours. Rajkummar! Love yourself and stop doing this.

btw thanks for reminding me Amit Sadh exists, why isn’t he in things? I wish I had the money to hire him and Harsh Kapoor and Jim Sarbh to star in pandering movies.

    • Amit Sadh, Jim Sarbh, and Harsh Kapoor in a taught emotional love triangle? I would put them in a light comedy but I can’t imagine any of them toning themselves down enough for a comedy. Anyway, love triangle? One of those magical close friendships that gets messy when two (or more) of them have sex? Perhaps the happy ending is them deciding they can be a throuple?

      • It gets messy and then one of them thinks the other wasn’t into them after all, and gets with the third one, etc.

I don’t know if it should have a happy ending. Mainly they all need to brood shirtlessly at each other and scheme. Then the scheme can go wrong and they can cry in secret and then brood some more.

Man, if someone actually made this I would die on the spot.

        • Maybe Harsh is a young innocent, Amit and Jim are already caught in a complex psycho-sexual game (they’ve been together since college off and on, but love and happiness is boring so they are always trying to hurt each other and setting challenges and dares), they make a bet about who will seduce Harsh first, but then both end up kind of falling in love with him, while at the same time being jealous that the other one loves Harsh more than Amit/Jim. Then Harsh turns out to be a tormented poor boy hired by Jim’s wealthy grandmother who wanted to break Amit’s hold on Jim so he would return home and get married, only now Harsh has truly come to care for both Amit and Jim. Everyone schemes, broods, cries, takes off shirts. It ends with Harsh trying to kill himself as Jim is getting married, but Amit stops Harsh and then they both go and kidnap Jim from his wedding. Flashforward 6 months, now all three of them are caught in a psycho-sexual tangled relationship in a shared apartment. And they see a new hot young man on the sidewalk below and immediately start placing a new challenge.

Question, should it be in color or arty black and white? And who should the new hot young man below be?

  4. The only one I have any remote interest in this month is Saand Ki Aankh, and that’s only if it gets decent reviews and if I can get past the makeup.

    Like

    • I can’t even get past the make-up in the trailer, which seems like a bad sign.

  5. Must be so out of the loop because Navdeep Singh made another movie??? Saif is in the Navdeep Singh movie??? Saif has been making a bunch of more offbeat films for the past couple of years???

    Like

    • Yes! Humshakals was apparently a life changing experience for Saif, he switched to only interesting weird movies since then. Happy Ending, Rangoon, Chef, Kaalakaandi, Bazaar, and now Laal Kaptaan. All weird plot ideas from weird directors, all mature roles that are more character than hero parts, and he squeezed in Sacred Games in the middle of it all too. I won’t say any Saif movie will be good (I hate Rangoon), but it will be weird and Saif will steal the entire film with his hand tied behind his back.

  6. Honestly, none of these movies seem that interesting to me. I was excited about War but now I’m not as interested because there seem to be only two songs in the movie.

I think I do want to see The Sky is Pink but it’s not one of those movies I’m waiting to see asap.

Like Angie mentioned, Asuran is coming out this weekend and I’m looking forward to that as well. I think Vijay’s next movie, Bigil, is supposed to come out for Diwali this year.

  7. This is a very helpful post, thank you! Looks like I will not be going to the theater this month, though a couple will be worth tracking down on streaming. (War and maybe Laal Kaptaan for me.)
