Songs Round-Up Post! New Songs for Love Aaj Kal 2, Jawani Jaaneman, and Malang!

Well, I have fallen hideously behind and now I need to do all of these at once. Luckily, they are all good!

Love Aaj Kal 2

Shayad. Really just GORGEOUS lyrics on this one. The refrain is “if you are not there, I am not I”. But is Kartik playing a character on the spectrum or what? Why is he moving like that?

Haan Main Galat. Catchy song, gotta say that so far I like the “new” soundtrack better than the old one. And Sara comes alive a bit in the song sequence, maybe it is just a terribly written character and it is killing her spirit but the songs set her free. Interested in how this song seems to show the “modern” characters actually seeing and interacting with the past ones. Probably just means it is an end credits song, but it would be interesting if it was in the middle of the film and both Sara and Kartik were aware of the past story and considering how it affects their present.

Phir Ne Milen Kabhi. I do NOT want to hang out in these places! I just keep smelling body odor and marijuana and patchouli just watching the video. BLECH!!! But I am intrigued by White Girl. It seems like she is Aditya’s “home” person, while Disha was his adventure. Is she his settled girlfriend that he was cheating on? Or is she just the leader of the unwashed white hippies he travels with? Or what?

Malang. Again, don’t make me go do these things. But do make me watch ARK take his shirt on and off (45 seconds) and then have an angry shirtless fight (2:45). Although, he really bulked up between the two, right? I’m not imagining that?

Humraah. Well, at least when you are swimming you can’t smell the hippies. Oh, and the plot is pretty clear at this point, right? ARK and Disha have a magical Goa love story, split up, he comes back for her, she is killed, he is out for vengeance.

Jawani Jaanemann

Gallan Kardi. I LOVE this song! Partly because I am a sucker for Punjabi rap/hip-hop. But I also really like what it is saying. Unless I misinterpreted it. But as I see it, it is Alaya singing lyrics of “just let me love you love you love you” and Saif singing “I am lost, my heart is stolen”. And then Tabu comes in for the “she so sexy” part. So in this bouncy club song sound, Alaya and Saif and expressing really sweet sentiments of recently discovered father-daughter bond. Alaya just wants someone to love, and Saif has lost his heart immediately.

Ole Ole. You know what I like here? We see Saif working for it. We see him doing facials and working out and stuff, and psyching himself up before going out, and struggling on the dance floor. Sure he is an aging playboy who still gets hot young girls, but he doesn’t just walk in and have them throw themselves at him. It’s realistic that he has to put in the time to keep up his life style.

Ole Ole Original. You gotta see the first version! Which is very much in the “he does no work, just shows up and woman throw themselves at him” variety. But I’ll believe it, who wouldn’t be seduced by that foofy mullet?

And finally, bonus! Shubh Mangal Zyaada Saavdhan

Pyaar Tenu Karda Gabru. Bonus song! So sexy, so awesome, so romantic! And what I love most is that Ayushmann is not effeminate AT ALL. This is macho sexy gay,

Phew! Done! Now you all can comment. Or at least confirm that ARK really did gain like 30 pounds of muscle somewhere in the Malang filming.

  1. I don’t like violence but I would buy a ticket only to see the angry shirtless fight scene on the big screen. And yes Aditya looks heavier in the fight scene and he has also worse haircut.

  2. In both the Love Aaj Kal songs,I am liking the portions with Karthik & the new girl than with Sara. For whatever reason,I am just not liking Sara’s vibe in this. The dancing, the costumes, the dialogue delivery all seem too much trying against Karthik’s natural being & dancing. Jawani Jaaneman looks interesting.
Saw a poster of a new movie with Sara,Dhanush and Akshay Kumar with the men kissing her cheeks from either side & all I could think was Akshay better be kissing her has a dad or uncle.

    • I was liking the new girl more too! If nothing else, she looks like a person. Sara has that plastic surgery perfect face.

      • Rt?? I wasn’t liking her vibe & body language too. Something very put on. And I had liked her in interviews and Kedarnath. She is just two films old and I already feel she is jaded and I don’t know if its her fault entirely. Have the same feeling for most new age Hindi actors.

        • Ananya! Weirdly! She felt very fresh and excited to be working in Pati Patni Aur Woh. It may not last, and I’m not saying she was talented or anything, but she did have that kind of fresh eager excitement that makes a new actress fun.

  3. As somebody that thought the LAK 2 trailer was only meh instead of awful these songs are making me hate the movie more! Especially Shayad! What is Kartik even doing?? It looks really bad! Also was Saif the only guy that could kind of pull off a mullet back in the day because his hair was all poofy and voluminous? I think so!

    • Saif’s mullets are wondrous, completely believable that all those women would just throw themselves at him.

  4. I can’t say any of these songs did much for me either as music or as lures for the films, but have you heard “ek pal tumko jo na dekhen” from Shikara? Swoon. It’s almost ridiculously gorgeous and romantic.

  5. I like both but prefer the Twist from LAK 1, for its afro Caribbean rap & music track, plus it’s very danceable, popular at wedding receptions and Bollywood nights. But it’s of its era, and the modern one, with its spare EDM sound, is of more of today’s sound.

Looks like Goa is the rnew eplacement for the NRI fantasy film? In the past, they would be doing all those things (extreme sports, drugs, drinking, dancing, partying among white people) anywhere but India.

    • What fun for Goa! To be the place people come to do the stuff they used to be ashamed to do within India.

      • I know this is mockingly mean, but it’s fun for us Goans too.. to make fun of all the (non-Goan) Indians letting loose in Goa and making fools of themselves in the process lol. My cousins and I have joked about this on more than one occasion. Just like with the NRI fantasy films, most Indians partying in Goa do not look, dress, or act like Disha or ARK.

    • Also, I really like Alaya in these videos. She looks good enough but also forgettable, but as soon as she speaks, her face, presence, and body language take on a distinct presence that is truly felt and makes me want to watch her.

      • Yes! And that makes me hopeful for the film in general, that they cast an interesting person in that role instead of some forgettable debutante. Makes me hope that her character were be extra complex.
