Well, I have fallen hideously behind and now I need to do all of these at once. Luckily, they are all good!
Love Aaj Kal 2
Shayad. Really just GORGEOUS lyrics on this one. The refrain is “if you are not there, I am not I”. But is Kartik playing a character on the spectrum or what? Why is he moving like that?
Haan Main Galat. Catchy song, gotta say that so far I like the “new” soundtrack better than the old one. And Sara comes alive a bit in the song sequence, maybe it is just a terribly written character and it is killing her spirit but the songs set her free. Interested in how this song seems to show the “modern” characters actually seeing and interacting with the past ones. Probably just means it is an end credits song, but it would be interesting if it was in the middle of the film and both Sara and Kartik were aware of the past story and considering how it affects their present.
Phir Ne Milen Kabhi. I do NOT want to hang out in these places! I just keep smelling body odor and marijuana and patchouli just watching the video. BLECH!!! But I am intrigued by White Girl. It seems like she is Aditya’s “home” person, while Disha was his adventure. Is she his settled girlfriend that he was cheating on? Or is she just the leader of the unwashed white hippies he travels with? Or what?
Malang. Again, don’t make me go do these things. But do make me watch ARK take his shirt on and off (45 seconds) and then have an angry shirtless fight (2:45). Although, he really bulked up between the two, right? I’m not imagining that?
Humraah. Well, at least when you are swimming you can’t smell the hippies. Oh, and the plot is pretty clear at this point, right? ARK and Disha have a magical Goa love story, split up, he comes back for her, she is killed, he is out for vengeance.
Gallan Kardi. I LOVE this song! Partly because I am a sucker for Punjabi rap/hip-hop. But I also really like what it is saying. Unless I misinterpreted it. But as I see it, it is Alaya singing lyrics of “just let me love you love you love you” and Saif singing “I am lost, my heart is stolen”. And then Tabu comes in for the “she so sexy” part. So in this bouncy club song sound, Alaya and Saif and expressing really sweet sentiments of recently discovered father-daughter bond. Alaya just wants someone to love, and Saif has lost his heart immediately.
Ole Ole. You know what I like here? We see Saif working for it. We see him doing facials and working out and stuff, and psyching himself up before going out, and struggling on the dance floor. Sure he is an aging playboy who still gets hot young girls, but he doesn’t just walk in and have them throw themselves at him. It’s realistic that he has to put in the time to keep up his life style.
Ole Ole Original. You gotta see the first version! Which is very much in the “he does no work, just shows up and woman throw themselves at him” variety. But I’ll believe it, who wouldn’t be seduced by that foofy mullet?
And finally, bonus! Shubh Mangal Zyaada Saavdhan
Pyaar Tenu Karda Gabru. Bonus song! So sexy, so awesome, so romantic! And what I love most is that Ayushmann is not effeminate AT ALL. This is macho sexy gay,
Phew! Done! Now you all can comment. Or at least confirm that ARK really did gain like 30 pounds of muscle somewhere in the Malang filming.
