Happy Saturday! My flingin’ flangin’ foot is hurting and I can’t sleep at night and all I want to do is lie in bed and watch sitcoms and drift in and out of consciousness. So I’m gonna do that while you all talk to each other.
Things to talk about!
Gunjan Saxena trailer! I am not planning to watch the movie because I am at the point where anything even vaguely patriotic turns my stomach, but I did force myself to watch the trailer, and now I feel sick. Or I feel sick because I only got 5 hours of sleep? Anyway, BLECH!
Oh look, her Dad supported her, that makes me feel better because I couldn’t handle a movie about a young woman going against her father to pursue her dreams, that would just be WRONG, fathers always get to gift their daughters their lives. Oh look, her fellow officers teased her and told her to leave, but of course they didn’t sexually harass her or rape her, that would be actually wrong and the Indian army would never do that. Oh look, in the end she was inspired by patriotism and serving her country, another woman who un-womans herself for the greater love of country which makes it okay. Oh look, more guns and battle and war sequences, because war isn’t a terrifying blasphemous nightmare which no sane person would want to see but Fun Happy Movie Times.
Eid Mubarak! It’s Eid al-Adha which celebrates Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son Ismeal to God. Oh that’s cool, just yesterday I wrote a little about Abraham Lincoln without even realizing it was an Abraham holiday. Come to think of it, Abraham Lincoln sacrificed his sons as well, 2 out of 4 dying before him, 1 dying after, and the last one being sent into war by him (although he survived). Death and misery is all around us at all times, is what I am saying. Oh, and Shahrukh did a tweet.
Speaking of death and misery, it’s Meena Kumari’s birth anniversary! Which came up on my Shakuntala Devi posts as an example of someone we really REALLY do not want a biopic of. Which brings me to a question, looking at August birthdays alone, which of these people do you most want NOT to get the glossy biopic treatment? If two out of three are going to get a biopic complete with made-up history, silly song sequences, and a conclusion that “Success Makes Women Bad Wives and Mothers”, which one would you save?
Nutan (cheating since it is her son’s birthday in August)
