Friday WatchAlong, Kabhi Kabhie! Right Here at 3pm Chicago Time!

Yaaaaay, Kabhi Kabhie! Shashi Kapoor being AWESOME, Raakhee being pretty good, everyone else being shades of terrible culminating in truly terrible Amitabh. The snark should be strong in us.

Kabhi Kabhie! Watch on Amazon Prime, or youtube, or googleplay, or DVD starting at 3pm Chicago time.

I will start the comments off at 3pm, and then you all pile on after me, right here.

  1. See how Amitabh loves him because Rishi is the son of his lost love Raakhee? So obvious a contrast with his inability to feel love for the illigitimate child of his wife, it must have been put right next to each other on purpose.

  2. Wait a minute! “your memories are the only thing I treasure in my life”. Hasn’t his whole point with Waheeda been that his daughter is the only thing he treasures?

  3. I feel SO BAD for Shashi right here! Gotta be as painful as it was for Raakhee back then in the moment, for him to suddenly see a previous memory spoiled after 20 years.

  4. So far as I am concerned, we are set for a happy ending. Waheeda escapes Amitabh and moves to Delhi, Rishi-Neetu get married, Shashi-Raakhee are happy forever, and Sweety-Amitabh live in joint misery forever. But I guess Yashji just had to come up with an insane way to give everyone a happy ending.

    • For one second I appreciated her standing up for herself and then she goes back to asking for forgiveness! UGH! Thank god she finally says she is willing to leave him.

  5. Also, Waheeda was engaged, watched the man she loved die, survived pregnancy and childbirth alone, and then gave up her child. How is Amitabh’s pain over breaking up with his college girlfriend supposed to be more than that????

    • Whenever I watch this movie I do wonder if there is a part of Amitabh that is really like this in real life and Yash Chopra just saw it and tapped into it really well.

    • Right?? You know in KANK when he and Rani go to Dev’s house to bring flowers? And, when Amitabh is leaving, he looks at Dev, and he kinda smiles a smile that doesn’t reach his eyes. That scene chills me every time. Not sure the “angry young man” thing was really much of an act.

  6. Amitabh being so calm while he sentences her really puts the topping on the “you horrible man” cake. He isn’t even doing it in anger! This is the justice he sees as right and proper!
