Saturday WatchAlong 7:30am: Dear Zindagi! Sexy SRK and Mental Health!!!!

Good morning! I have walked the dog, made coffee, and I am all ready to be soothed by beautiful Goa and beautiful SRK.

Yaaaaaay, Shahrukh movie!!!! He’s wise and kind and encouraging, and the rest of the movie is nice too.

At 7:30am, I will put up a comment “And PLAY!” and you hit play and then we all comment along together.

  1. The way Shahrukh talks about his parents in this scene, we know they are dead and probably died when he was fairly young. Right? It’s not in the dialogue or anything obvious, but something about the way he sets his face tells you that for sure, Shahrukh must have written it into his character biography.

  2. Shah Rukh has Schrodinger’s butt. When he was younger, before he got the six pack obsession (i.e. no body fat anywhere), he had a nice lil bubble butt. Now it sort of comes and goes depending on trousers and whether he’s actually eating during shooting. As Genevieve and Margaret say, it means we have to watch it closely. 😅

  3. I’m thinking maybe Alia has a history of making herself over for the dude she is into? Being into food for the restaurant dude, and now music, and Kunal seemed easy because at least he was into the same stuff she was.

  4. See, what I like is that Ali isn’t actually a terrible dude. He listens when she expresses herself, he doesn’t get mad at her, he actually planned a really nice date. He isn’t right for Alia, but he wasn’t a terrible decision, it’s okay to “try chairs” and then walk away.

  5. Have you noticed during quarantine how real this “5 people” thing is? For realsies, we are all being forced to get down to our top 5. there are 3 friends I’ve seen in person in the past 8 months, and also my parents.

  6. I’m thinking when Gauri sat down to start writing this script, she worked out the idea that Alia’s therapy goes outside in. So first career, then romance, then friends, and finally family. Getting closer and closer to th heart of it.

  7. The boy so often gets special attention, at least in my American family it didn’t last until adulthood. Of course, it is my brother’s birthday…

    • There are no boys in my generation in my family, and it’s an interesting dynamic. Everyone is girls, so either you treat everyone as not as good, or you treat everyone equal, or you figure another reason to make someone “special”.

  8. In my family, I am the Alia and my sister is the Kiddo. Nic ething is, my immediate family (parents and stuff) are equally proud and encouraging of us both. But boy, the bigger family events are TOUGH!!!! Very much “oh, and also there’s Margaret, we forgot about her and she doesn’t really do anything”

  9. YES! Long brilliant speech!!! My Mom raised us with this speech basically, and the example she always used was the Kennedys. There’s this story of them that they were all raised with “Kennedys don’t cry”. And then at some family event one of the Shriver grandkids hurt himself and started to cry and was told “Kennedys don’t cry”, and his Dad said “You are a Shriver, Shrivers can cry”. Crying is good!
