Saturday Report!!!! Tragedy!!!!

I did it! I did a totally indulgent and lazy Saturday!!! Well, until right now, when I have given in and am writing this post. And this morning when I did a discussion post. And the 2.5 hour Watchalong. But otherwise, LAZY!

You ready for a photo of the worst thing that has happened to me in my entire life, and possibly in the history of the world?

2 weeks, 999 pieces, and I CAN’T FIND THE LAST ONE!!!!!!! Yes, I have moved the sofa and shaken out the cushions and interrogated the dog, no luck.

  1. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. My condolences. I guarantee next vacuum you find it. Actually, have you vaccumed since you began the puzzle? Albie dog may at least be an accomplice to this heinous crime. Keep us posted!

    • I have not vacuumed since beginning the puzzle, and I am very glad of that, so I don’t have the “what if it’s in the vacuum” question. I did shake out Albie Dog’s blanket while he watched with interest, no luck.

  2. Shall I order a set and comb through it for the equivalent piece for you? At least it’s not one of the black ones, so that might even be doable.
Or are you just going to sue the company?

    • I honestly considered that. But no, I think I will just know that this particular edition of this puzzle only has 999 pieces. I’m positive it’s my own fault too, I had a hard time finding a good place to do the puzzle, so I moved it from table A to table B and then back again.

  3. I once did a thousand piece puzzle where there were only 999. Luckily the missing piece was an edge piece so I could get it framed over the entire row. I wonder if it went missing at the factory or there are some mischief makers going around stores and take 1 piece out of the puzzles.

    • The newer puzzles I am getting come in sealed plastic bags inside boxes, which seemed odd to me. But I bet that is why! Tamper proof! no clever prankster can invisibly steal one piece!!!

  4. This puzzle is life. It is a story to be told and retold. Take a photo of it and either frame it and keep it on your wall, or keep it in your purse so that you have it with you always. Then you will be able to ponder the meaning or meaninglessness of the last missing piece of the puzzle whenever you are bored. And the meaning will probably change depending on what is going on in your life. Like Andrew Wyeth’s painting Christina’s World – Does the girl want to go towards or away from the house? And even when you know the history of the painting and the truth of the people and land it depicts, the original question still stands.

    • True! And if we know the exact shape and appearance of the missing piece, because of having all the other pieces, do we even need it? You can complete the puzzle by simply knowing what the completed puzzle looks like, you don’t need to actually have every piece.

And now I have to look up the Wyeth painting.

    • I like that theory!!! Makes the missing piece an element of the artwork, not just FRUSTRATING.

  5. Oh my God, this is just like the movie (Puzzle). The good news is that when you finally find it months from now, it will be symbolic of a new phase in your life in which you find fulfillment and personal freedom.

My practical advice is to start sifting Albie’s feces.

    • Yeah, I also suspect Albie’s digestion. My parents offered that I should see if he has an especially quizzical look, since that might indicate he has a puzzle inside him.
