What Non-Indian Movies/TV Shows/Whatever Would You Be Interested in Me Reviewing?

After almost a year of lockdown, my brain is not functioning. Also, there simply aren’t that many new movies out there, and I’ve already reviewed every single old Indian movie I feel like watching. Which means if I am going to write new reviews, they have to be of non-Indian stuff I’ve already seen. Lay it on me! What could I write about?

I do pop culture, meaning popular stuff. So I’m not going to review something like “Marriage Story” no matter what you do to me. But I’ll review any old big mass hit!

For example,

    • Yaaaaay!!!! I love Jane Eyre so much. I read it the first time when I was 11 I think, and I just remember an entire weekend disappearing because I could not put down that book.

    • Totally can review Hepburn and Bogart, and compare it with Kajol and Akshay’s Yeh Dillagi.

But I also really really love AoGG!!!!

    • I have SO MANY thoughts on Agatha Raisin!!! Because it is flawed. Tootsie, on the other hand, is so perfect that I may only be able to say “this movie is perfect”

        • I mean, I could write about the general truth of “handsome perfect hero is always way way boring than funny flawed hero and writers need to learn this”. OMG, he is so DULL!!!!!

          • The end of the most recent season was maybe opening the door to Agatha realizing she didn’t actually want to spend time with him. I really really hope that is where it goes, write the man out and let a romance develop naturally with one of the interesting characters. Perhaps a woman!

    • Oh, absolutely! And the essential narrative is constantly being re-imagined from Khoobsurat to Briget Jones.

  1. I would love to read your review of Hamilton! I notice you aren’t getting a lot of agreement in these responses. You gave us too many options!

  2. I must confess I don’t understand why people still love Friends. It was fun when I was 13, but recently I tried to rewatch it and it was so dull! Like I watched entire episode and didn’t smile even once. But my sister and niece are totally in love with the series and keep rewatching. I don’t understand why.

  3. Obvs my vote is for Anne of Green Gables and Pride and Prejudice!! It takes me forever to get through movies and tv shows, but I have absolutely no problem spending a couple of hours with a book like I did with Jamaica Inn last night. But also, those books are the best!

Also, I hadn’t seen that poster for His Girl Friday and it made me laugh 🙂 It sounds like it should be a murder mystery or a crime movie with that tagline.

  4. Ooh, could you write reviews of classic Hollywood films or musicals but from the perspective of Indian cinema? Like if Singin’ in the Rain or Jerry Maguire (or Moana!) were judged by Indian cinema criteria, how would they hold up?

  5. What about some Pakistani dramas? You could begin with Dhoop Kinare — it’s got a lot you’ll love and it’ll be an interesting view for you of the industry on the other side of the fence. 🙂 Plus slow burn romances and well rounded characters and beautiful lines. It’s almost like reading a book!

    • But then I have to watch new stuff again! Which is what I am trying to avoid!

Oh, and I did review Humsafar, Heera, and Zindagi Gulzar Hai already, check the archives for those reviews.

      • Oh dear, yes that’s true. Then my vote for Jane Eyre and the Anne of Green Gables books!! Have you read Shirley btw — that’s beautiful too!

And thanks, I had missed your previous reviews. Going to check them out now!

  6. I’d love to hear your thoughts on Hamilton because I love it, and Friends because I think it’s extremely overrated. Also maybe P&P because I’ve liked almost every adaptation I’ve seen/read much more than the original novel.

    • Ooooo, now I want to write about Friends too! And why it ISN’T overrated, but feels like it is, because we have all the immitators since then (some of them doing Friends better than Friends did).
