Friday WatchAlong: What Should We Watch for MY PARENTS’ ANNIVERSARY????

There are probably other birthday’s and events this Friday, but really, what is more important than this one? We need to do something wedding/marriage themed, for sure!

Wedding-marriage movies:

Guru: Forget the Ambani/Citizen Kane aspect, it is alllllllllll about the love story so far as I am concerned. Well, love stories, there’s Aish-Abhi, and also Maddy-Vidya.

Mere Brother Ki Dulhan: A wedding movie! Wedding planning, wedding destination, secret wedding love stories.

Dil: Get some Aamir good luck in here! Madhuri-Aamir adorable runaway elopement, and best ever wedding scene.

Chalte Chalte: Too real? Maybe too real.

Silsila: Definitely too real!

    • NEVER AGAIN!!!! I will THROW MY TELEVISION OUT THE WINDOW!!!!!

Speaking of Hateful Nithin, did you see he is REMAKING ANDHADHUN????? No doubt in this version the hero will be super super perfect, and the heroine will be kind of dim,a nd there will be loads of fun speeches about Cultural Values.

      • I read about it some time ago and still don’t understand how he wants to do it. Like, the force of Andhadhun was not only that every actor was good but also that every character was such a good actor and they all were playing games and pretending and Nithiin can’t do this. So he will leave the part of fake blind guy an add who knows what on the top. Remaking Andhadhun is such a bad idea I almost feel like watching it.

  1. Yay! I love this theme. It was our anniversary on Sunday so I feel like this is a present for me also!
I would be up for Mere Brother (I love Katrina in it) and Dil. If you and the others really want to watch Guru, I will watch it, but I remember not liking the movie the first time and still not liking it the second time after reading your review. Maybe third-time is a charm.

  2. “Silsila” is not an appropriate anniversary vibe! You’ll jinx the poor dears.

Not certain yet if I will be free to watch with you guys, but my vote would be for “Guru.” “Chalte Chalte” is a favorite, actually, but I watched it just last week, so don’t need to see again. And I like “Dil,” but I am embarrassed to like “Dil,” so we shan’t speak any more of that–!

    • But everyone else also likes Dil! So I don’t think you have to be embarrassed.

      • Sorry, didn’t see you had commented on this earlier. You would think watching enough older films would eventually inure me to this, but “Dil” is still, uh, pretty rape-y for me. BUT I am a big sucker for all the ridiculous oaths-taken-under-duress drama in the second half, and it obviously has a great wedding scene. So I shall just strategically ignore the parts I need to : P

  3. I’m out for the next two weeks, but I look forward to sneaking at peak at all the comments everyone makes after the fact.
