Happy Saturday! And happy Bajrangi Bhaijaan day! It is SUCH a good movie, I can’t wait to share it with y’all.
Bajrangi Bhaijaan! It’s on einthusan, hotstar, and DVDs. At 7:30am Chicago time, I will put up an “and PLAY” comment and we will start commenting along right here!
I would absolutely hire Salman to just hang around and help with the kids at my school.

I love that Kareena controls everything here and poor Salman is literally just dragged along.

I was just thinking that I like Kareena in roles where she controls things! She is so good at it.

The story bored Shahida. She is fast asleep!

I know things are different in India, but is it actually possible to earn enough to buy a house in six months?
LikeLike
By “house” they meant “Apartment”. So, enough for the first 6 months rent so you can get an iron clad lease.

Nope. Especially not in Delhi.

This happened to me as a kid. My parents stopped eating meat in India because watching a live animal getting killed is traumatizing. But apparently, I used to go to my neighbor’s house as a very small child and they used to feed me chicken and mutton.

When my uncle was little, he used to go next door for toast. Because they had a toaster. His parents didn’t notice for a bit, he would just take the bread from the table, runa cross the hall, and then be back. I guess the neighbors didn’t care either.

HA! I love it.

Because religion is sometimes mean, in their house they can’t have meat. And her wanting meat reveals she is lower caste and therefore unclean. And that’s why she has to sit all by herself and eat meat at a table where she won’t infect them. Even thought she is SO CUTE.

I thought only 30% of Indians were true vegitarians? But of course his super religious.

Yep, his household is super super religious which is why they can’t even sit with her while she is eating chicken.

This song is so absurdly silly but also so cute – If I try to explain this movie’s songs to anyone I will always say “It makes sense in context”

I love this movie’s lesson that the whole “follow food rules, don’t get to close to other castes, blah blah” stuff only lasts about 30 seconds when you see an actually little kid crying. Rules go out the window awfully fast.

Yodelling, because this song isn’t weird enough

The explanation I use for this song is “the little girl is sad, so he is singing to cheer her up”. Which I think is as clear as it can be? I mean, it cheers me up!

Green – just like the stereotype! Why are Muslim houses (and temples I guess ) green?

I honestly don’t know. But I know it is a close to universal thing, it’s not just in India, it’s green everywhere.

The internet tells me the color is holy, but other than a rather random quote from the Koran it gives no reason…

The colour green (Arabic: أخضر, romanized: ‘akhḍar) has a number of traditional associations in Islam. In the Quran, it is associated with paradise. In the 12th century, green was chosen as dynastic colour by the (Shiite) Fatimids, in contrast to the black used by the (Sunnite) Abbasids.
Took this from Google

Green has lots of religious associations with Islam. It is associated with Jannah (heaven/paradise).

I was watching really old Salman movies and noticed the same people being casted as Salman’s “friends” in the movies over and over again so I looked them up. And it’s amazing that since the beginning of his career (even before he was really famous and had power) he somehow helped his friends with roles!

Have you heard the story that he turned down Maine Pyar Kiya unless they caste Mohnish Bahl with him? That was his big break! And he was gonna turn away unless Mohnish got a shot.

This is reminding me of another family story. We were on family a car trip, and I was about Munni’s age, and we needed a hotel room and there was some convention so they were all full. Anyway, I started crying at the desk clerk, and he bumped someone and gave us the room. Little girl tears! They can do ANYTHING!!!
