Happy Birthday to ME!!!! I am having such a nice day so far. Thought I would share my lovely lovely celebrations.
I have a crazy theory that how you spend your birthday is related to how your year will go. Which is mostly a source of intense stress to have a nice birthday, but I am trying to get over that.
I woke up in the middle of the night with a tummy ache because I ate too much last night (cheese ravioli and tiramisu!). Which means I will spend the year with an over full tummy? That seems like a good thing!
And then I woke up for real at 6am, which means I will spend the year waking up early. But I knew that already, I always wake up early.
I forgot to pack toothpaste, which I guess means I will spend the year without toothpaste? Anyway, I drove over to get my free Starbucks drink and buy toothpaste and then went back to my hotel room.
And then I brushed my teeth and drank my fancy Starbucks drink in my big fancy hotel room bed and now I am thinking of going back to sleep again until my pedicure. BIRTHDAY!!!
Happy Birthday, Margaret!
Seems to me a big coffee in a big bed in a big hotel room means you have a big year coming up. A big, FANTASTIC year.

Happy Birthday, Margaret!
I have forgotten toothpaste many times and usually the nice people at the hotel send up a free kit, just in case you forget toothpaste in the future.
Do you have any fun plans for today and tonight for dinner? Are you staying in the city and close to any fun places that are open? The last time I was there, we stayed at a brand new place at Navy Pier, which had gorgeous views, but the Navy Pier itself was closed so we had to take a cab everywhere! It was nice though to be in a hotel room that likely noone else had ever used before us.

I am staying way way out in the suburbs, where there is nothing to do but go to the Morton Arboretum (one of the best places in the world to study trees). And also, drive past the house where my Mom grew up. So I did my pedicure and massage and then went to the Arboretum and then drove by my Mom’s childhood home, and then went back to the hotel. A Full Day. And for dinner I used up a free cake coupon and also got ribs. Heaven!

It was lovely! I did a steam massage, which turns out to be they put your whole body in a steam tent before the massage so all your muscles go “ahhhhhhh”.

Associating your birthday with the whole next year IS a lot of pressure. I would be so stressed the day wouldn’t turn out right that no matter what happened I wouldn’t be enjoying it. I do hope you’re not like me.
I can’t even remember what I did for my birthday this past year, and it was only two months ago. However I will always remember that in 2020 friends left gift bags of toilet paper on my door step for my birthday. Was 2020 my best birthday, probably not, but it sure was memorable! I hope the hotel has nice soft toilet paper!

My parents, out of Liberal Guilt, are trying to find environmentally friendly toilet paper that isn’t awful. So far it’s been a bit of an uphill battle.
It is EXTREMELY stressful! I don’t know why I gave myself this superstition just to cause misery every year. Whatever you do, do NOT pass it on to your children. They are just the right age to take it to heart and believe it for the rest of their lives.
