Wednesday Watching Post: What Are You Reading and Watching and Thinking and Listening to the Week I Sort Of Move?

Happy Wednesday! Happy day I try not to freak out! Tomorrow I take residency of my building and pay a large deposit to a roofer! AAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!

I’ll start!

Reading: Reminder, Ms Marvel Read Along!!!! I’m perfectly happy with just me and Emily talking, she is giving me all the Jersey City insider info, but I don’t want y’all to miss out on the fun! Vol. 3 “Crushed”, we just covered the first chapter, moving on to the next two now. Oh, and besides that, I am reading more comic books. Finished every single Lumberjanes book (so good! so gay!), and now trying “Goldie Vance”, a teen detective in a hip happening 1960s setting, also gay.

Watching: What with all the stress in my household (my parents are moving on the 7th and freaking out about finishing packing), we watched My Neighbor Totoro as a soothing calming experience a couple nights ago. As expected, complete calm resulted.

Thinking: AAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! I would have everything under control if my parents weren’t moving too. Tomorrow night I move into the empty upstairs apartment with my TV and my bedroll. That’s fine. But I also have to move a coffee table, an arm chair, and 6 bookshelves that my parents are giving me but I have to take them out of their apartment in the next three days. And I have to take absolutely all my stuff out too, not so much as a change of clothes left behind. It’s a lot! And then all that stuff has to be moved downstairs to my final apartment in a month. And the cleaners and roofers are coming tomorrow too, and what if we don’t have a key for the garage, and what if Albie doesn’t like it, and AAAAAAAA!!!!

Listening: Soothing music. AR Rahman, take me away.

Okay, question for you! My Neighbor Totoro was my pick for “most happy soothing possible movie”, what would have been your pick?

  1. I must admit my mistake. When, few days ago Popka asked if somebody watched Harsh’s episode of Ray and if it’s not terrible, I thought: “It’s only 1 hour long and it has Harsh’s cute face, even if it’s bad it can never be terrible. I WAS WRONG! It’s 1 hour of WTF I’m watching!? There are good movies, bad movies and “I would rather jump off my balcony” movies. Spotlight is the latter. Terrible.

    • Alas, this warning comes too late. I also watched it, and also thought it was bad! Flat and devoid of arc or emotion. And it’s not the story’s fault, you could tell there were many things in the story that didn’t get their due.

Obviously this is at least partly the fault of the makers, BUT I have to say I also blame Harsh. He was not good. He really needs to work a looooot more if he wants to amount to anything as an actor. I did like the lady who did Didi, even though they didn’t do a good job of fleshing out her character.

I don’t know if I hated it as much as you did, but did it kind of ruin Harsh for me? Yes. I need him to get out of my face.

      • I also blame Harsh! He was too flat, too boring. I kept thinking: well it’s stupid story but with better actor it could have much more sense. With somebody who can play a shallow person but with a drop of depth. Instead he was just so annoying, like a screaming baby in a shop.
And yes, Didi was much better. There is this moment when the camera focus on her as she tells her story. Suddenly we see Harsh face and I was literally like: oh he is still here , I hoped he has left.

    • Yeah it was as I feared – all three other than the Manoj one sucked! All trying to be dark and edgy and I was flat out bored. Spotlight might not have been the worst one, but was too long (all of them were) and what was that ending?!!

      • I just finished the last episode (Kay Kay Menon one) and OMG WHAT IS THIS SHIT? I mean the idea (and I guess the short story) was good, but I hate everything else. And it ruined sex for me forever. For me it’s too late, but y’all save yourself and avoid this series!!!!
I don’t want to hear about any other Indian anthology ever. They all should end in the trashcan where they belong.

        • Thank you Angie! Not only does this mean none of us have to bother watching it, it means I don’t ahve to bother reviewing it because no one at DCIB is going to bother watching it. Yaaaaaaaaaaay! Only fun times, no hard times!

        • It was needlessly graphic and there was no point to it all. I feel like I have to stand up for the short stories because they are delightful, humorous tales for kids while the makers have added a lot of stuff for the films. For example, in the first one, the mastermind is invented for the film.

      • I think looking at the story it was supposed to make a point about religion (commercialisation and people using it for fame?) and Didi was secretly a goddess he freed/a metaphor for freeing a goddess by living the religion by doing good deeds, and the end is SUPPOSED to be sweet and whimsical, but because everything sucked it didn’t work. It was meant to be like Brahmachari or even Hero no.1 in tone.

  2. Thinking: I have only two things in my head lately. One is travel, because , if everything goes well I’m going to Poland this Saturday and I’m so stressed! Traveling was always stressful but now even more, with the new documents, masks and Covid tests. I have my test tomorrow and now out of the blue I have sore throat and cough. It must be AC’s fault. I know I don’t have covid, but I’m so nervous, because my husband told me the test can be positive if I have cold. Don’t have idea if it’s true but hope not!
The second thing I keep thinking is: Tomorrow Haseen Dilruba is supposed to be on Netflix! I haven’t been so excited for a movie for a long time.

Listening: The bad Akshay video we were talking few days ago reminded me how I liked B Praak songs for Sufna. This is my favourite:

    • This is so stressful!!!! Now I am stressed for you, and I was already stressed for me! But I think it will be fine. You won’t get a false positive, you will get to Poland, and then you can drink apple cider like you were just saying you couldn’t get in Italy.

      • Good news: my family and I are all negative 😊. I’m so happy. Now please keep your fingers crossed for the travel.
Another good news: I managed to watch the first 10 minutes of Haseen Dillruba and loved it so far. Yeah I know it’s only beginning but it’s funny and Vikrant’s character (so far) is like 100â„… Angie husband material. Intelligent, nice, calm and so cute. I can’t resist when he plays a romantic characters.

        • Yaaaaaay! It will all work out, I am sure.

I just made a date with my friend Dina to come over and see the New Apartment and watch Haseen Dillruba on Tuesday. So look for a review sometime after that.
