Yaaaaaaaaaaaay, Fairy Tales! I love fairy tales. And this one has a noble poor boy and a proud princess and all kinds of things.
Aan! It’s available for rent on Prime, or for free on Einthusan. Such fun!
At 8:30am Chicago time, I will put up a comment saying “and PLAY” and then we will all comment along.
I love how camp the costume designer went with the fantasy/dream costumes

Isn’t she the Queen now? Can’t she just reveal herself and order them to stop?

Oh the mom is doing it all because of some weird loyalty to the king. UGH!
I was actually happy when she was just doing it for her people!

I couldn’t summarise the plot of this movie if you paid me a thousand euro.

I mean, it’s basically Swept Away but as a fairy tale.

Here is my attempt for anyone that wants to read this before watching the movie. King tells his son that the son won’t be the heir because he wants to turn the kingdom into a democracy. Son tries to kill the king but the king survives. In the meantime, a villager works to “tame” the princess. The son kills the villager’s childhood friend, who is in love with the villager. Villager kills the son but the son survies, and kidnaps the princess. Princess falls in love with the villager because of a dream sequence. Son comes back to kill the villager. Villager likely kills the son and marries the princess. The end!

Wikipedia says this movie was an international hit. Do you think it was released without subtitles? Because I feel like I would enjoy it a lot more without subtitles.
LikeLike
It was an hour and 40 minutes, which greatly helped, I imagine.

I ignored the subtitles and I don’t think it made the experiance any better.

The einthusan version is ten minutes or so shorter

I don’t think so, we all had the same up to a certain point, where I think we had additional scenes.

So, is it a democracy now? Or are we back to the Good King running everything? I’m confused. Also, if cars and England exist, isn’t this during colonial times so none of this matters because the Britishers will just do what they want?

I don’t know and will never know.

Unclear! Somehow in the 3 long hours of this movie, the writers just didn’t have the time to explain this

And thank you ALL for watching this with me!!!! A reminder that old classic films are not necessarily better films.

Finally got to the end! And enjoyed it in a bonkers kind of way. But definitely want a version where the princess and the ‘maid’ rule invincibly together.
