Happy 2022!!!!! Here Are All My Hindi Movie Wishes For Next Year! Which Ones Do You Share?

Happy Sunday! I spent yesterday at my parents, watched Happy New Year with y’all, took a nap, then went on a driving adventure to look at Christmas decorations, then came home and had more naps and talked and watched a little TV and went to bed. It was nice! And now I’m ready to think about 2022

Okay, ready for my wishes for next year?

New Shahrukh Movie

It’s been so LONG!!!! I just want new SRK stuff to watching and enjoy

Ranbir and Alia Break Up

I think this was my wish last year too? Oh well, someday it will come true.

DeepVeer Baby

I was gonna say “if they want it”, but, NAH! I don’t care what they want, I want cute little baby photos.

If I had 3 wishes, that would be them.

What are your 3 wishes?

Bonus question, if you could only have 1 wish, what would it be?

I think I would go for “new SRK movie” at this point. Alia’s gonna do what she wants to do with Ranbir. DeepVeer will have a baby if they want one. But a new SRK movie would bring immediate joy to me personally!

  1. My 3 Wishes:

    1. Both Kat and Vicky & Varun and Natasha start a family.
    2. Dhanush and Sara & Tripti Dimri and Avinash Tiwary will star once again in a movie, for the latter I hope that this time the romance will not be a tragedy. They are both such good Jodis!!
    3. Karan Johar’s ‘Takht’ will one day become a reality.

My 1 wish would be nro 2. I need my romance Jodi’s since they are so rare these days!!! Give me drama, tragedy or comedy, as long as there is some emotional angst and plenty of romance! It’s the reason I am so fixated on ‘Atrangi Re’ right now, it is such a breath of fresh air in today’s Hindi cinema.

    • Yes! You know why we haven’t had good jodis in a long time? Because mainstream films are afraid to focus on jodis. There could be loads of actor-actress pairs with great chemistry, we just never get to see it because it’s all about the hero-villain or heroine-father or some other stupid combo.

  2. 1. Govinda realises he’s a character actor and takes a role as a gritty detective in a streaming series that gains him huge acclaim
    2. Everyone realises music numbers are what sets Indian cinema apart from the rest of the world and invests heavily in increasingly long and elaborate music numbers of which every movie has at least 8, and every single one is lipsynched or sung by the actors
    3. A law is introduced saying a musical number in an Indian movie can only have cuts after at minimum 3 seconds, and no slow motion or acceleration is allowed

I don’t have a favourite among these, although I’d trade all of them for getting rid of the film censors forever.

    • I mean, if we have the Power to get rid of the censor board, let’s do a clean sweep and get rid of all intellectual social media “thinkers” who spread viral opinions on Hindi film. Like, Karan Johar makes friends with the head of twitter and gets permission to delete any tweet he wants.

  3. I thought I didn’t have defined enough opinions about the current industry to answer this, but Kirre and Popka have unsurprisingly proven me incorrect. I shall second Popka’s extremely sensible suggestions/dictatorial edicts regarding songs, defer the second coming of Chichi to some later date (with apologies), and also wish “Takht” into being. I try not to remember that project even exists; if I think about it too much I get distracted by how badly I want it and how unlikely I am to get it ) :

    • You know, I had a great idea. What if they kept the censors but the censors was me?

I have to say, much though I wish Chichi would make better choices, I do also love it when he makes terrible choices so there’s that.

      • You would have my vote ❤ But no takesie-backsies on your campaign promises! If conservationists stand idly by as the traditional song picturization falls extinct, the entire filmi ecosystem will be in jeopardy.

I look at it this way: you can be a character actor pretty much as long as you live, and I fully expect Govinda to live to 100. (Of course, you can also make bad choices as long as you live.)

        • There is no more hardline song dictator than I am! I promise you that I will rule with an iron hand and no taste at all.

Honestly, the chances of him doing anything sensible ever are basically in the minus, but we can hope. I only want him to keep having his tits out, forever.

      • NO! I GET TO BE CENSOR! I will fight you for it!!!! I know you, you will let anything go if it is campy enough. If you were censor, Padmavat would release. WEAK. If I were censor, Bhansali would be sent to a dessert island.

How about a censor board made up of you, me, and Angie? Everything would be colorful and campy, super liberal, and all male actors would have to gain 20 pounds at least.

          • Well if we take over, I feel like we can encourage and find BETTER Bhansali!!!! Like, get Ashutosh Gowariker back on the historical bandwagon. There is other talent out there, other more politically acceptable talent!

        • Big yes to nice, soft men, strong heroines in extremely colorful clothes and liberal plots. Unfortunately I think our censor board would not last long because you would ban Bhansali and I would ban Rohit Shetty and you like him. But now that I think about it there is no need to ban Rohit, we should just make a rule that “no cars can be harmed during making of a movie”. Without exploding cars poor guy would be lost.

          • No, I think we banish EVERYBODY and then put the word out that we are looking for replacements. And then we find better Bhansali and Shetty!

  4. 1. More Haseen Dilruba / Atrangi Re type movies. Haaseen Dillruba was the most watched movie on Netflix so who knows, maybe we will have something similar this year also.
    2. Anthologies must die, but really it’s high time. 98% of them are awful and nobody is interested in them anymore. If you are a filmaker and have a nice idea – make a small, simple movie, for God’s sake don’t agree to be part of an anthology film.
    3. Vijay Sethupathi should stop doing all those stupid movies he’s doing (I feel like he made 50 movies last year and one worse than the other) and focus on doing something like 96. I need another 96 in my life badly. I’ve spent all 2021 watching movies from north to south (and even wester ones) in search of this one which will wreck me with emotions and I didn’t find any. Meanwhile Vijay was wasting his talent playing just another gangster or politician in another Netflix film nobody needs.

    • OMG, I am so SICK of anthologies!!!!! Yes, a thousand times yes.

Haseen Dillruba was most watched? That’s GREAT. It was a good interesting movie with song sequences and a solid but non-star cast, love it. I want more of that, especially on streaming.

    • Vijay Sethupathi’s lineup for 2022 is actually pretty interesting (and hopefully not mediocre like 2021) especially Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal with Nayanthara and Samantha. The songs are so good https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlymYnShOLw and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9lR5hLgEnI. Also, here’s a list of some sort of romcoms I think you might enjoy: Lesa Lesa, Kaakha Kaakha, Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa, Chi La Sow, Solo, Ullam Ketkumae, Sachein, Ohm Shanthi Oshaana, Ustad Hotel, Leelai and Charlie.

      • I came to post Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal song and say that maybe my third wish will come true. But let’s see. It looks very good but I didn’t like Naanum Rowdy Dhaan so I have my doubts about KRK.

Thanks for recommendations. Ohm Shanthi Oshaana is one of the movies I love the most in my life. Charlie and Chi La Sow also have a special place in my heart.
Leelai I haven’t seen, and it looks interesting.

  5. I am with you on the SRK film and Popka on the songs, but for the sake of saying something original, I submit the following tiny dreams.

    1. That Sharmji Namkeen finally shows up. I really want to see Juhi and Rishi together one more time.
    2. That Gaddar 2 is an AMAZING film and a MASSIVE HIT and not the damp squib I’m so terrified it’s going to be, after the misery of Bunty aur Babli 2. (Though it might be a 2022 release?)
    3. That Akshay Kumar doesn’t destroy any more of his 90s songs.

If I could have only one, then…probably 1.

  6. I was perhaps falsely assuming we were getting an SRK movie this year, at least he is FILMING again. Him working makes me happy. I’m not over the trauma his family has gone through, so really I would like to see his eldest take on a project (film or something totally different) that ignites his passion.

So knowing that SRK is working fulfills my big wish – my next big wish is to see more crossover between the different language film industries in India. Dhanush with Akshay and SAK was awesome! He was awesome. So long ago we hashed out a 7 brides for 7 brothers re-boot with Hindi stars and Allu Arjun, I’d still like to see it. I would love the industries to share their strengths with eachother. I don’t watch enough movies to have true opinions, but then I have inklings of opinions anyway, like Telugu movies tend to have better action & fight choreography and Hindi movies tend to have more fleshed out female characters. Can I see some awesome fight choreography with a female actor who is not just a prop? In any language? And yes I have seen Akira and it was awesome. Why is there only one? Why can’t Sonakshi Sinha and Allu Arjun become Indian James Bond agents fighting evil Russian bad guys together? They can both massacre each other’s language on screen and I won’t be able to tell because all I can do is read the English subtitles.

Next I’m going to hop onto Popka’s wish for longer and more and more elaborate dances, but I’m cool with slow motion, though the constant cutting does get on my nerves.

So 1.2.3. SRK working / mixing of different Language industries’ resources & talent / more dance.

    • Mixing language industries is so OBVIOUS. The dubbed releases are big hits everywhere, why not mix and match the casts even more? Although maybe the southern industries (perfectly reasonably) don’t want to deal with the toxic sludge of the Hindi industry.

I’m worried about Aryan as well, but so far as I can tell he is still on bail indefinitely. Which means he can’t leave the country and has to check in with his local police station once a week. I don’t know what project he could manage to work on in those circumstances, cut off from all his American creative partners. Film is a collaberative medium, I can’t imagine it feels the same at all to be zooming in to production meetings and stuff.

  7. 1. New SRK film, and it’s good – not debatably good, has some good parts, we’re still arguing several years later, but good good. Oh and he looks sexy.
    2. Season 2 of Made in Heaven
    3. They finally release The Legend of Maula Jatt and let us see the epic Mahira-Fawad reunion they’ve been cruelly withholding.

Bonus wish: a new Andhadhun. Something big and twisty and ambitious that makes amazing use of its talented actors and also has fantastic songs. Coming out of nowhere to get everyone talking again.

    • YES Season 2 of Made In Heaven! Totally forgot about that! I want it too.

  8. 1. A rule is instated that you must wait until a song is at least ten years old before you can remake it for a movie.
    2. Varun actually puts out a good movie. Or at least one directed by someone other than his father or Remo.
    3. PATHAN!!!!!!! Or SRK doing anything. And cutting off that ponytail! Yuck!

Cannot pick which one I want most. Probably #2. I miss Varun.
