Wednesday Watching Post: What Are You Reading and Watching and Thinking and Listening to While I Go ON VACATION?

Happy Wednesday! I work a half day today and then head off to get the heck out of town. And along the way I may get a haircut because my hair is terrible right now (my last bang trim was not a success).

I’ll start!

Reading: For the trip, I packed 5 LumberJanes comic books I haven’t read yet, and 3 Terry Pratchetts. Plus my Kindle so, you know, all the books in the history of the world as well.

Watching: I’m deep into Star Trek: The Next Generation! Okay, call me crazy, but I think bald short Picard might be, like, super sexy? Am I crazy?

Thinking: I am so freakin’ excited to get out of town. I am going to uninstall all my work apps from my phone and not call my parents or my friends and just EXIST. I’m not even bringing Albie Dog.

Listening: VACATION!!!! This is my vacation song.

Now, I am about to go on vacation so I need to give you a really good question to keep you talking. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.

The Valentine’s Brackets have been so fun, what other bracket categories do you think we should try? Heroines? Villains? Chocolate Heroes? Shahrukh Smiles?

  1. I went on a whole Shahrukh-Rani kick this weekend which started with me finally finishing Chalte Chalte. I then re-watched KKHH, and also finally saw Paheli.

Chalte Chalte was good except I liked the first half much more than the second half. I doubt I would have been able to watch the second half if they hadn’t replaced Aishwarya with Rani though. Also Rani looked so pretty in this movie!

KKHH is still as great as I remembered it to be!

I was skeptical going in and the first 15 or so minutes are boring but Paheli was really good! It wasn’t actually as weird as I expected and I loved the soundtrack.

    • Villains would be fun as a bracket, maybe all villains who were in love with the heroine or something like that to keep with the valentine’s theme. How about something like jodis that were only in one movie together and should have gotten another movie together?

  2. Hoo, boy I have a lot of news to share that I picked up online.

First, song release from Gehraiyaan – Beqaaboo.

Saint Sonu saved a person’s life in Punjab when there was a car crash. I fully expect shrines and temples to be built in his name at some point in time since he keeps being the Best Person Ever!

Also, SRK’s and Alia’s ‘Darlings’ movie is going to be on Netflix! A straight to OTT release. So yay!

  3. Villains! Yes, please!
Enjoy your vacation and being just for yourself. That’s what I get when I go to Geneva 🙂
This time, I’m fully occupied with digitilizing old audio- and video cassettes, diapositives and photo negatives. I still have the devices to play them and they are still used (the cassettes), especially by the kids, but I need space and we won’t watch old-fashioned dia-shows anymore or use the negatives of old photos.

  4. Jealous of your vacation!

All my thinking, listening and watching are Lata related lately. It’s bittersweet! Was going through some live performance clips, found this cute one. Shashi, Rishi, Vinod, Amitabh, Yashji, Zeenat, Saira, Raakhee in their gorgeous heydays in attendance. The cute smile of Raakhee when Kabhi Kabhie starts!

I was going to suggest brackets of just Lata songs for every mood, but not many people here might be interested. Maybe dance sequences? One-time jodis sounds fun too.

  6. Happy vacation, Margaret!!!

I’d love to contrast smiley vs sad vs contrast-y couples, but I’m not sure that’s a bracket thing. So SRK-Kajol might be a smiley couple (both so happy!), sad might be Guru Dutt and Meena Kumari (both so sad!), and a contrast would be Dilip and Vyjanthimala or Guru and Madhubala or Guru and Waheeda.

Please not SRK Smiles. My heart wouldn’t be able to handle it and also it would break at having to vote any away.

    • By the looks of the end credits of this song and SLB new deal with Netflix, this might go to Netflix after completing the theatre run. Which is wonderful! Because in this pandemic situation there is no way I am seeing this in the cinema right now.
