Happy Saturday!!!! It was my birthday this week (not gonna tell you the day!) so I am having a yard party to celebrate today. It will either be me and 4 kids and 6 adults, or me and a smaller number, but either way I’m gonna have root beer and potato chips and get my new flowers planted!
Things to talk about!
For my birthday, my housemates took me out to a rotary sushi place! It was so much sensory overload! Little plates on a circling track, and 6 TVs playing different channels, and everything is super brightly lit, and then I got to spin the wheel of discounts which just added to the confusion and excitement. My goodness!

I’m watching the HBO documentary “Burden of Proof” which is amazing and really makes me want to see an Indian movie version of the story, it would even be a great SRK role. Middle aged man is determined to find out what happened to his teenage sister over 3 decades ago. He is convinced that his abusive father killed her and his mother helped cover it up. He loves his mother very much and vice versa, but this belief is tearing them apart, he refuses to see her or let her see her grandchildren until she tells the police the truth. I would love to see a serious movie in India about this with SRK as a calm middle-aged father and husband who is quietly determined to be loyal to his missing sister even if it breaks him apart from his mother Jaya Bachchan. Plus there’s all these other interesting middle-aged witnesses who used to know the sister, so lots more places for cameos from Sonali Bendre and Sonakshi Sinha and everyone else we love.

For my outside party today, which will include activities like “help me plant this milkweed”, do I wear nice jeans and a top? Or overall shorts? Or overalls? Or a dress? Which is most practical?

How about Rekha in that mother role? Or you don’t like Rekha very much do you?

Rekha would be good, but it has to be a really gentle energy which feels more like Jaya.

Do you have any advise on how to make friends that I can depend on, in a new city? I thought it is a worth a try asking here given that you all seem to be more relationally capable than I am. Maybe a post where the DCIB community can help me brainstorm?
I am finding it hard to find people other than work colleagues to connect to and it seems to take forever for any connection to develop into deep friendship… And nobody seems to have the time or need for it around me, what with their already busy and full lives

I can’t help because I’m an introvert with 0 friends , but it would be interesting to read what others have to say.

It was! one of my friends brought her baby and 5 year old, so the activity ended up being just playing with the kids.

I’m happy to hear that.
“Burden of Proof” looks good. I haven’t seen a good crime documentary for a while. I watched Shiny Happy People on Prime and it was bad. I love documentaries about fundamentalist american churches and stuff but this one was so weak. It promises you it will be about Duggar family, but really the Duggars are hardly there. Before watching the docu I only knew that the Duggars exists, they had a TLC show and their son is a pedophile. After 4 long episodes I know exactly the same. Not even one thing more.

Most important part of the Dugger Doc! The cult headquarters it right near where my Mom grew up. I was fascinated by that.
But yes, Burden of Proof is very very well made.
