Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani Teaser!!!!

This teaser is RIDICULOUS. It promises so much, can it actually deliver?

Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani

It’s got two big names, Ranveer and Alia, it’s supposed to be a straight romance (no deeper meaning) and now we get this teaser that has Epic Songs, Epic Tears, Epic Romance.

The teaser says “for Dharmas 25th year”. which just makes me feel old. But also, it’s very much the same teaser as Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham! Which I know, because it used to be tacked on to almost every YRF DVD you bought. It’s a mood teaser, it’s rich and big and dramatic, it’s not about “this is something different” it’s about “this is the same but More So”.

Anyway, I’m excited! Let’s lean into full on sappiness and unapologetic emotion! None of this post-modern ironic romance any more.

  2. I am so excited about this! As you stated, I am so glad he is leaning into old school family romance drama instead of doing something different. I feel like when he tried that with KANK (maybe Ae Dil Hai Mushkil with its ending and some weird storylines in between) it didn’t work for me. I actively dislike both of those movies but I am all about leaning into the nostalgia of KKKG and KKHH. I think Karan even mentioned at one point that Rocky Aur Rani is an updated KKKG. I am fully leaning into it.

    • Although, Student of the Year TOTALLY WORKED. But maybe that’s because it was just KKHH with a smaller concept? Same feel of light campus hijinks, but stripped down.

      • Absolutely! SOTY worked perfectly! And I think Ae Dil would have worked if Ranbir had been the one to die.

There is no fixing KANK. Or maybe there is? SRK and Rani should have never been together at the end. Maybe that the issue. Karan just fails at the ending. But I see that with manu directors. It’s my issue with Luv Ranjan too. Fix the endings and I would love the movie.

  3. It does promise everything in this teaser…I almost wish there wasn’t a full trailer, so that people don’t spend too much time dissecting it before it releases. I bet there will be song teasers, too, but I hope that they don’t show the full songs until after release. I want it to open so big that producers start greenlighting more big romances again!

Now my dilemma is how will I see it in theaters. The Regal theater near me that had all of the Indian films closed down and only the biggest releases like Pathan have made it to the other multiplex. To complicate things, I’ll be away in Syracuse possibly when it releases. I think sometimes the big theater there plays the big Indian releases. I could bring my mom to her first Indian film in the theater and this one will be perfect!

    • Absolutely looks like a good “bring your Mom” movie! And like the kind of movie that will be playing everywhere in the world, not just funky urban theaters.

  4. Oh please, it looks so fun. Please let it be a giant success and quickly move to streaming so I don’t have to wait forever to see it!

      • he he he, actually the day of its release I’ll be on a plane to Hawaii (poor me). But we don’t have wiggle room to stay in a city after the flight and we have to rush back to the our home town in the boonies so the 14 year old can catch the last few days of Band Camp. Did you know that being in a marching band counts for both PE and Art in California?

  5. I’m excited and I think it will work. The pandemic has really made people crave the old bollywood and wish for things to go back to how it was. I feel thats half the reason why movies like Zara Hatke Zara Bachke and Tu Jhooti Mai Makkar were hits because they really prioritised the importance of Indian family’s. I feel because of the pandemic, people are really valuing family dynamics and stories more than anything. Just in general movies about people having connections with very unrealistic happy endings.

  6. I watched Zara hatke zara bachke and was 20 mins late to the movie. I disliked the songs in the background. There was no joy in that movie. I hate New Bollywood. I hope this movie gives all the goodness i love about song and dance and emotion done well. If anyone can, then it’s going to be Karan.

I question whether I can care about Alia and Ranveer though. I found Alia to be less convincing than Ranveer in the teaser πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

        • If you go to Tamil Nadu, then Trisha and Aishwarya Rai are certified stars there in their own right. Then there is Sai Pallavi, who is in her own category in the south too.

As for Hindi, I guess Deepika is the closest we can come in the modern day with her global reach but also sturdy homegrown stardom. Then again, she did come at the perfect time between some social media to full-on social media stardom.

        • Dips is the only one I can think of. Not about fan following or opening a movie, but that particular kind of acting that’s about making love to the camera more than being in character. Katrina sometimes has it too, but not always.

  8. I also hope it will be a big hit. It seems so obvious, but I wonder if audiences will understand it’s not supposed to be something new? I mean, a lot of people on Twitter are complaining that Zoya’s Archies isn’t realistic.
I see there is a Durga Pujo scene, so apparently they’re leaning into the whole Bengaliness of the one family.

    • Given Alia’s family is Bengali in the film, I’m fully ready for all the offended Bengalis to descend on twitter to bash KJo for the stereotypes and cliches! I expect nothing less from him πŸ˜€

  9. I was more impressed by Alia than Ranveer in the trailer, whereas I was expecting the opposite. This is the first time I can look at her and feel she is projecting a mature woman instead of a young girl. Part of it is styling sure but also credit to her. I’m already looking forward to all the saris that will be showcased. I’m so hoping this won’t be an Arijit-heavy soundtrack but the signs don’t look good!

    • I had the same feeling – for the first time I saw a character Alia was playing and not her. I’m surprised but also happy. Still I like Ranveer more in the trailer because of this scene when he grabs some guy’s hand and then he argues and cries. Finally a movie with a lot of E M O T I O N S !!!! The reason why I watch Indian films.
Also only the other day I was thinking how there are no strong, sexy male characters in hindi movies anymore. There are a lot of actors who play roles, go from one scene to another, take their shirts off, but they lack magnetism, this something that will glue me to the screen. But here I see it in Ranveer. The way he walks and acts makes me think: Man, he is sexy and I’m attracted. And I was never a Ranveer fan!

  10. There’s a part of me that is actually extremely excited for this mainly because of nostaligia and the yearning for a simple, wholsome, family centered romance. But another part of me is also really scared that Karan is gonna get lost in the sauce again and pull a spectacle over substance move like he did with the disastrous Kalank. I’m still very much looking forward to watching the movie though as it’s a film that I can see with my mother in theaters without cringing at some out of place sexual content. But I also have to hold myself back from getting too worked up about it as I don’t wanna be disapointed if it doesn’t turn out to be as amazing as K3G. So many conflicting emotions but I’m mainly just happy to see Karan back at doing what he does best: Telling stories.
