Happy Saturday!!! This is a last minute WatchAlong, so I’m not sure if anyone can join. I will give it 15 minutes and then give up. But if you can join, this is a delightful insane 90s twins romantic comedy and you will like it!
Jeans
It’s on Netflix (yaaaay!), it’s a little less than 3 hours, it has a great soundtrack and beautiful young Aishwarya, and a bonkers plot. Also, lots of USA scenes so it’s appropriate for the 4th of July weekend.
At 8am Chicago time, I will put up an “And PLAY” comment and then see if anyone joins me!
Ok I really need to talk about the structure of the song coz I love it so much. Each monument gets an ancient costume Aish and a modern costume Aish.

And all the historical Aishes do their portions of the song alone

Also love how Aish is framed against the monument in each portion. There’s a lot of bits where you have a shot from below, lining her up against the world wonder

Yes! And the visuals perfectly match the lyric metaphor, Aish herself is the miracle, she is the wonder that exists then and now.

Absolutely!! It’s so meta, and such a lovely nod to her being considered the world’s most beautiful woman at the time!

My absolute favourite part of this song is the Egyptian one. Both choreography wise and costume wise.

Look at Madhesh making things more complicated than they needed to be 😭

He truly is his Paati’s grandson 🤧

Oooh another thing that struck me after a full day of watching this film: Madhesh takes after Paati – cooking up madcap schemes and complicating matters, but also doing all that out of love for their family…and Madhu takes a lot after her parents – sincere and valuing honesty, but if a situation arises they’ll reluctantly roll with Paati’s schemes. But they WILL never let her forget how much they don’t like doing it!

I keep thinking of PS with this movie. Because the kind of astonishing beauty described for her character fits this young Aish. But the complexity of the performances requires Old Aish. I think I am happier with Old Aish doing a good performance rather than Young Aish being even more beautiful.

Yeah Young Aish was still finding her feet as a performer at this point. And HDDCS comes soon after this, where she did start being taken more seriously for acting…even though that was still a bit on-off depending of the film.

As I recall from my teen years, shortly after this film she starred in Aa Ab Laut Chalen with Akshaye, then HDDCS and Taal happened one after the other.

I was a fool to think we could get through this movie without a Wedding Drama scene
