As always, I am behind on things and it was up to you my lovely readers to even tell me this was happening. But I’m caught up now! I watched it!
We’ve had a fantasy love song and a crowded trailer, but I feel like this is the first glimpse of the real character chemistry. The trailer just gave us High Drama in the Ranveer-Alia scenes, and the love song could have been any couple. This is FUN! Ranveer is over the top almost doing both parts of the exchange, and then Alia starts to join in and loosen up and smile a bit too. It gives the feel of a couple where he is a bit too much, but is also what she needs to find the silly side of herself. Makes me excited to see more of these two characters interacting and falling in love.
Also works very well with Ranveer-Alia casting! Just looking at this song, Ranveer is a way WAY better dancer than Alia, and way more fun in general in songs. So having him be sort of dance around her and try to jolly her into joining in works well with his skills and her skills. Meanwhile, having her give us character beats, showing how she is loosening up and feeling happier, works to her strengths. It feels a little bit Humpty Sharma in a good way, the hero is heart on his sleeve over the top, and Alia keeps her feelings inside.

I confess, I STILL get Ranveer and Ranbir confused. But I remember that one is a great guy that I like and one is a jerk who verbally abuses his wife.
Likely, there’s Wikipedia. So, I looked it up (again). And now I can enjoy this song because it’s Ranveer and NOT Ranbir.

I love love the song. Its so catchy and its nice that Karan is going back to what makes Bollywood unique. Which is obviously all the fun songs(on a more serious note, I feel that songs can often captur visual emotional beats which would have to otherwise be explained in long talky dialogues; this is why I feel Indian movies are often more plot dense due to being able to cut time with the usage of songs). I have a feeling this is one of the songs where Ranveer is still trying to woo Alia over; and the last scene is both of them fully in love with each other. It’s also interesting that at the start Ranveer is so energetic and Alia is a little more reserved however in the end, the roles are reversed. Perhaps giving the message that they are more similar than different.

Yes! Definitely feels like a flirty courtship song. I could see this bridging the plot between a previous scene where they are frenemies to a scene afterwards where they start admitting they love each other.

I was so waiting for this post 😂. Ranveer is definitely a much better dancer than Alia. And again to me Alia is too much in character and I like Ranveer’s abandon more so in this song. The holi song in Badrinath ki Dulhaniya – it reminded me of that a little bit but Alia had more dancing there

Well this gets me excited to see the movie!
I saw Lust Stories 2 last week. Two of the stories were good, so good that one especially keeps playing around in my head. One story was so so. And one story was so forgetable that I literally forget it. I keep trying to remind myself what that 4th story was. This morning I actually looked up a review just so I could remember its plot and thus stop trying to rack my brain about it.

Skip to 27 minutes and 30 seconds in. You would find THIS story worthwhile. It has the actress who was in Sir and a big maid role, but the Sir actress is NOT the maid. I saw an interview with her and apparently that is a big deal. It is really good, and discussion worthy!
And then an hour and 31 minutes in is Kajol’s story. GREAT acting, but more of a sad twist of a story than something to really dwell on.
The story between the two has the actress in Plan A Plan B, the super cheap Netflix movie I loved that no one else would watch, and she is volumptiously HOT in it. But the story as a whole is not amazing, but at least memorable.
So at least go 27 minutes and 30 seconds in to see that one story, and you will NOT regret it!

I’m not a fan of the song but I love the video. The choreo is perfectly matched to both of their abilities and Ranveer as the same energy we fell in love with him for. Their expressions are amazing. The end where Ranveer watches Alia dance gave me huge K3G vibes. I’m finally properly excited for this movie.

Ranveer and Alia have evolved into really good filmy dancers. The part where they act out the lyrics of the original Jhumka Gira without the words being played is great, Saroj Khan would have been proud!

How did it take me this long to remember this is the same pairing as Gully Boy?? Small contrast 😂.
When I think of songs where Alia was paired with a much better dancer but they still played to her strengths, I always think of Gulabo (makes me happy every time I watch it).
Though this one has way more Bole Chudiyan vibes. Haven’t decided how I feel about this movie yet, though I love how big they’ve gone with the production numbers. I think it’s because I don’t have a feel for their characters yet. All good, early days. I did promise my 13yo he would be getting Ranveer ‘s outfit as a gift.
