Wednesday Watching Post: What Are You Reading and Watching and Thinking and Listening to 9 Days before Rocky Aur Rani Releases????

Happy Wednesday!!!! I’m taking a long weekend at the lake this weekend and just trying to crawl through the last few days until I get there. Today, tomorrow, half of Friday, and then I am FREE!!!

I’ll start!

Reading: Still reading Ponniyin Selvan, of course. I’ve also got a funny story to share from one of my murder podcasts! Woman goes on a first date with this guy, asks him if he was married before, he says “yes, but I don’t like to talk about it” she says (joking) “what, did you kill your wife?” he says “what have you heard?” And she dated him for SIX MONTHS! I feel like that’s the kind of red flag on a first date where you back slowly away and then ignore his calls.

Watching: I watched Brahmachari! It is FABULOUS and I may suggest it as a watchalong. I also watched Pathaan with a friend virtually last night, the helicopters continue to be amazing. On the other hand, she did not think he was in love with Deepika because of some cynical “but didn’t they just meet like 26 hours ago?” logic. Her heart is STONE.

Thinking: I am sooooooooooooooooooo looking forward to just checking out of normal life for this weekend. I’m leaving behind recycling, laundry, watering the yard, all kinds of things. And it is WORTH IT! I may finally finish Ponniyin Selvan.

Listening: Brahmachari has a banging soundtrack! Including one of the songs I already know from the Mujshe Dosti “Medley”.

Now, question for you!!! Today is my “pick up vegetables from the community garden where I bought a subscription” day. Does anyone else do the vegetable subscription thing? If so, do you also find it VERY STRESSFUL or is that just me?

  3. Thank you for once again making me feel less alone. Whenever there is a harvest alarm on our vegetable plot behind the house, I get very stressed because now I’ll have to figure out what to cook with these specific vegetables. It’s why we changed our subscription box from fruit and vegetables to just fruit – those you can just eat raw whenever the fancy takes you.

    • YES! And last week I learned for the first time that you can eat the greens attached to the root vegetables. So it’s not just the carrots themselves I have to use up, it’s all the green stuff on top.

      • Not sure if this is helpful, but there are lots of Indian recipes for using up the greens of vegetables. https://cookpad.com/us/recipes/15601077-carrot-leaves-sabzi

Also, if you have an air fryer you can quickly make “chips” or “crisps” out of the greens with a little olive oil and salt, or lemon pepper or other spices if you are trying to be fancy! It works in the oven too, but that takes a tiny bit longer.

Finally, I make a lot so “kichidi” for Toddles, which is essentially lentils, rice, and veggies all thrown in a instant pot with a tempering of garlic on top and throw whatever greens I have in there. It’s super easy and for me it is super comforting. Husband ends up making it his meal with some Indian pickle most of the time as well.

        • I can’t believe Mr. Toddles is eating Kichdi. Nephew A only eats PBJ sandwiches and Nephew B only eats plain sweet potatoes and small slices of banana.

          • Well, part of that maybe that I mainly cook so husband and Toddles are going to eat what I make them. Thankfully, for now, Toddles has been great at eating everything but I know my sister is intent on introducing him to chicken nuggets and french fries (because that’s all she ate as a kid) and we are just waiting for the day when that’s all he wants.

Funny story — husband’s default when he’s in charge of dinner is to order Chipotle for Toddles. Toddles loves Chipotle. So now, we have Pavloved Toddles into going “mmmmmm” whenever he sees a brown paper bag because he always thinks it’s Chipotle. 😆. I’ll send you the video evidence.

          • Nephew A says “PRESENTS” whenever he sees a package. Which isn’t so much Pavlov as logical conclusion based on previous experience.

As a friend of mine said, “if they are food motivated, you can teach a child anything”.

      • I have now cooked carrot tops three times, and decided that I don’t need to cook them a fourth. I don’t like them. They are bitter, and while I can disguise that bitterness in a pesto, pesto isn’t good for me, and non-carrot top pesto tastes better. Carrot tops and dandelion greens are on the list of food I will eat when the apocalypse comes and food is scarce. But despite the warnings, the apocalypse is not upon us so I can compost my carrot tops.

        • Ha! I love Dandelion tea. And the recipe I shared above included “methi” which are fenugreek leaves, which are also bitter. Hmmm… I never thought about it before, but guess I just enjoy bitter things!

    • Ok I have to say – how long is Prabhas planning to encash that Bahubali credit? All his projects since have been major duds but the bigger problem is he looks to be sleepwalking through most of them. It’s evident from the trailers and nothing I’ve heard about the films makes me think otherwise. I’m worried for Deepika because all the big male stars are going to come out unscathed anyway, given the nature of the industry and public.

Yes, yes, yes! He takes absolutely ridiculous money for making those movies and later looks like he only came to do a cameo. Dude, you’re the protagonist, wake up, for God’s sake!

          • Me neither. I tried Saaho but managed to watch one third and I watched Radhe Shyam, which was terrible, because Prabhas wasn’t acting at all and looked like a cartoon character.

          • Saaho I enjoyed, but that was because it was so ludicrously over the top at all times, not because of Prabhas.
