Monday Morning Questions: What Do You Want to Ask Me THE WEEK ROCKY AUR RANI COMES OUT!

Happy Monday! I am still on vacation, in that I’m not officially working. But not in that I have much to do instead of working. My parents and I are at the lake house hanging out, we went to a nice coffee place for breakfast, walked around a cute downtown a little, and now we are back home for nap/blog time.

Here is where you get to ask me anything from “Have you bought your Rocky Aur Rani tickets yet?” to “Should I buy Rocky Aur Rani tickets?” Just keep swinging back here all week as you think of new questions!

Now, question for you! Which of these movies do you think my and my parents ended up watching together? My Dad wanted to see Barbie, I wanted to NOT see Oppenheimer, and my Mom wanted to stay home and read a book:

  2. You saw Barbie?
Now I wonder as someone who has watched numerous Karan Johar movies. What do you expect will be different in Rocky aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani compared to his other films?

    • Nope, we saw Indiana Jones!
I have no idea what will be different about Rocky Aur Rani and that’s what makes me excited! Since his last big multicast movie (KANK) he made light and silly SOTY and mature dark ADHM.

        • WAS so long… I was having dinner with a friend at a yogurt/wine shop next to the movie theater where my family was watching, and when they didn’t come back in 2.5 hours I figured the kids had had too much sugar at the movie so Spouse took them straight home. So I left. NOPE they showed up 15 minutes after I left! Small town so of course there were friends about who could tell them I had just left. American movies are moving to Indian movie lengths!

  4. I hope everyone enjoys Rocky aur Rani! I have to wait a bit to see it since I will be away at a bachelorette party all weekend.

But new song! It’s my favorite one so far

  6. GAHHHHH. The theater by me that is playing Rocky aur Rani doesn’t have AC and it is supposed to go up to 100 degrees F/35 degrees C, which is WAAAAY too hot to be in a theater without AC. Also, this theater hasn’t had AC for the last 3 weekends!!! Oh and no ice and no water. Right in the midst of Indiana Jones, Mission Impossible, Barbie, and Oppenheimer. I can’t imagine how much money they are loosing.

    • I live in the land of swamp coolers, but this summer has been more humid than most (swamp coolers work best in dry heat). It hasn’t been too bad, but I saw Barbie in the swamp cooled theatre when it was 105 out. Every seat was filled, the swamp cooler could only do so much, basically by the end of the movie it was 98 degrees in the theatre. Everyone rushed out before the end of the credits assuming it would be cooler outside. It wasn’t.

  7. I relistened to Yaadon Mein and was shocked again at how good the song is. I wish I could store it in my heart and keep it forever. I wonder do you have any similar reccomendations?

  8. Ooh, the question I want to ask: who do you think are the “brat characters” of hindi film? You know the type I mean – spoiled, rich, but with a good heart. And almost celebrated/iconic for their brattiness!

My examples are Aisha (Aisha), Shanaya (SOTY), Pooja (K3G), Raj (DDLJ), but I KNOW there are more, I just can’t think of them!

    • Karan chose the worst time to release Rocky aur Rani. I was hoping it will arrive here in Italy like Pathaan and Brahamastra, but I don’t see any information (it deives me nut that there is no theather list available). Every cinema is busy showing Barbie. MI, Shark 2 and Elemental (Oppenheimer will relese next month) and nobody is thinking about a Hindi film.

    • I was just discussing this with my sister this morning! This doesn’t surprise me at all.

      1. Rocky Aur Rani is going up against Barbie and Oppenheimer, which were released last week, and Mission Impossible, which was released the week before. And Indiana Jones was released two weeks before that. These movies are going to take up a majority of the screens in America.

      2. It isn’t an action movie. Given the other movies above, people aren’t going to pay more to see it on IMAX. Most aren’t going to see this movie for the visuals or special effects.

      3. It’s the timing. Rock Aur Rani is being is a summer release along with 4 other blockbusters. This is at the time when everyone is on vacation and going to the movies. Given the 4 large blockbusters above, they know this movie has a more niche audience compared to the others. People who want to see it will go see it and they have options. But it isn’t looking to compete with the 4 blockbusters above at least in America.

Pathaan was an action movie where IMAX mattered more. It was released at the end of January after the holiday blockbusters, and without any big competition.

  9. What do you think of the fact that Dhindhoora Baja Re is all red except for Jaya? Everyone on twitter hates it, but it is evocative of Durga Puja.

I’m planning to make a special trip to Tokyo to see Pathaan and I’m starting to worry that I won’t get tickets. I’ll have to go opening weekend, and there are tons of Indians in Tokyo, plus Japanese SRK fans.

    • Purely visually, I think it’s a great choice. It’s not just that Jaya isn’t in red, it’s that Ranveer IS! So there’s a line of everyone being on the side of Durga/Bengalis/Alia, and Jaya being alone.

  10. I just got to the Bay in preparation for a flight on Sunday, and I CAN go see Rocky Aur Rani in the theater! It isn’t actually close, but the drive is doable. Now I just have to convince someone to go with me!

      • East Bay. And I SAW IT! I took my 15 year old nephew, my 12 year old niece, and my 11 year old son. My nephew and niece loved it and my son liked it. I loved it! The theater was only half full. I haven’t driven on freeways at night in a long long time. I look forward to not driving on a freeway at night for a long time again.

        Did you see it Nainaprakash?

        • Yes just getting out of the theatre. I was a tiny bit late in the beginning but I really loved it and I wished the songs were longer. They were over before I could get immersed in them. Only the ending credit song was long enough for me. To me this is Ranveer’s best work!

        • Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! So so so SO glad! Very curious about the kiddos take on things, let me know on the Spoiler review.

When I visit my friend in the Bay Area, she just refuses to drive on the freeway. We go to places on surface streets, or we stay home.
