4th post! Which should have gone up on the 8th, but on well! I’m gonna throw out my 4 films I would tell someone to watch in order to fall in love with SRK.
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge
Obviously! It’s the movie where I fell in love with him, and the movie where the world fell in love with him. He is charming, charismatic, smart, and just a big ball of energy onscreen.
Jab Harry Met Sejal
A very different but same kind of performance. He is worn down, subtle, almost off-putting at times, but still has that charisma and moments of manic energy in his performance that draw you in.
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai
It’s about being a father in this one, being mature. You like him in the first half, with that old youthful energy, but you love him in the second half when he loves his kid and his Mom and thinks through his decisions and responsibilities.
Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi
The movie that fully deconstructs his appeal and still makes you love him. The charm and energy is all on the surface, underneath is the quiet thoughtful seriousness. And it’s that underneath you TRULY love, the surface stuff is just to make you pay attention.
Okay, those are my picks for 4 films if I wanted to make someone fall in love with him. You choices?
1. Ram Jaane – the character, the cartoon, the one you wish the the girl chose.
2. Yes Boss – the more traditional hero, who still wasn’t traditional. One of the few roles in which he IS NOT rich. He IS NOT the boss. But he achieves love all the same.
3. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai – He made the wrong choice in college, but thankfully life gave him a second chance. SRK as the Dad and Son, first, and Lover last.
4. Jab Harry Met Sejal – He wasn’t looking for love, but he found it, and damn it made it him sexy. SO SEXY.

I was considering Main Hoon Na! But his character is so comic, I wasn’t sure if it was a moment to fall in love.

I just love him in it. How he is ready to serve and change and reconnect the family. He’s got a heart of gold

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai: That’s the movie that made me just SWOON for Shah. He’s a bit of a jerk in the first half but that makes his progression into a mature, responsible, loving father even more sweet. He looks also super hot with the open collard shirts and swagger in his step.
Kal Ho Naa Ho: My first Bollywood movie I’ve ever seen! Aman was truly my first love and a person I wished for to wipe my tears away during hard times in my life. He’s attractive, fun and adventurous but also caring, clever and self-sacrificing. One of my favorite Shah roles.
Chak De! India: Kinda feel like this is ironically one of Shah’s sexiest characters even though his only love in this movie is sports. I think him being so focused on getting his team to win and treating each one of the teammates with so much respect makes him somwhow even more desirable. He’s also so driven and passionate. I love how understated this perfomance was for Shah.
Veer-Zaara: I am one of the few that actually prefers this movie to DDLJ! I find it so beautiful and romantic. Plus, I’m a big fan of the Shah/Preity combination. The film just feels like a perfect blend of the old and new. Shah is (again) very self-sacrificing and empathetic, which I really appreciate.
(Bonus) Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna: I feel like everybody hates this movie lol To me it’s one of my absolute favorites as it just has the right amount of melodrama, beautiful locations and witty dialogue. Shah is highly unlikeable in this film but I think that’s exactly one of the reasons why I love him in it so much. He’s such a versatile actor and should be allowed by his audiences and fans to also play more of a villain/morally grey role from time to time.
(Bonus) Baazigar: Shah is so fun when he plays a psychotic serial killer! I was really biting my nails through every scene in the film. I feel this movie does get love but is always thrown into a pot with thrillers like Darr or Anjaam. To me Baazigar is a bit better than the other two. It also has an amazing soundtrack and fetus-Kajol in a great role!
