Monday Morning Questions: What Do You Want to Ask Me FIRST WEEK OF CHRISTMAS GIVEAWAY???

Happy Monday!!! And happy start of the glorious DCIB Christmas GiveAway season! Oh, and happy week of Diwali/Tiger 3! I’m trying to coordinate my group and get tickets now, because the sooner the better!

First, CHRISTMAS GIVEAWAY ANNOUNCEMENT!!!! Every Sunday I will count up the comments from the past week and announce who made the most. That person will get a special personalized Christmas card from me. You can only win once, so if the same person makes the most comments again, I skip over them and go on to the next person. Hot tip: WatchAlongs are where it’s at. If you can attend a watchalong, you can easily breeze into the top spot. And just so you get excited about what you could win, here is a sample card from last year!

Okay, moving on, regularly scheduled question post! Two parter today! 1. Are you planning to see Tiger 3?

Yes I am! And I am trying to be optimistic about it!

2. Did you like Tiger 1 and Tiger 2?

I love Tiger 1, I did NOT like Tiger 2, so Tiger 3 has a 50/50 chance with me.

  1. I am completely the opposite of you. I loved Tiger 2 and disliked Tiger 1.

Also I watched Jodha Akbar which is SO GOOD. Like the detailing, the way ashutosh gowarikar uses symbolic colours and framing to show their relationship. The love confession where the dark green room is filled with orange light. Ugh! Plus coincidentally shirtless hrithik practising in front of Aishwarya’s room. Why does no one make movies like this anymore?

I also watched CID which gave me a sudden eureka moment where Dev Anand and Waheeda Rehman kind of look similar not in a creepy incestual way but in an old married couple who starts to look similar. I also read Joy Luck Club which felt very repetitive and orientalist view of Chinese culture. Or atleast it felt like it was written that way even though it was written by a Chinese American woman. I wonder why that is so?

I also hope that everyone sees this beautiful dance on the song Mathura Nagarpati. I loved the video so much and it also made me feel angry at how people do not believe women have emotions. It was a random thought but still I was angry that women’s emotions are forgotten after marriage. This is the translation by the way:

A poet’s imagination of how Krishna one morning decided to leave Mathura to go back to see Raadha. The poet, a witness to this act of krishna asks him,
“ what happened this morning, oh lord of Mathura, that you have suddenly decided to go to Gokul? You’re leaving this beautiful land, your duties as a ruler, taking the crown off your head and rushing off in a hurry. What do you hope to achieve? You have left your symbols of royalty strewn on the floor, do you believe that you can play the flute again? which bird whispered something in your ear such that pangs of separation sprung in your heart?”

“Your Radha is now leading the life of a married woman. She milks the cows and is engaged in daily chores throughout the day. Her tears shed at your departure have long since dried. Why must you awaken a pain that has subsided? “

  3. I do plan to see Tiger 3 but not sure when probably the weekend after Diwali. I liked both Ek Tha Tiger and Tiger Zinda Hai and I have a feeling that this one will be a good combination of both. Plus SRK cameo and possibly others…rumors of a Hrithik cameo. First song didn’t blow me away, still should be a fun movie overall.

I’m more excited about Animal. I’ve seen both Arjun Reddy and Kabir Singh and though the gender politics are really messed up, I still thought they both led to amazing performances, so I’m looking for a return to form from Ranbir and he does toxic masculinity well, doesn’t he?! As long as his character is show to be misguided and toxic, I’m fine with a dark character.

Also excited about Sam Bahudar for the Vicky performance alone, though I’m definitely not a war movie person per se.

Dunki looks meh to me as I’m not a huge fan of the director, so we’ll see. Definitely will go see it though.

Did you hear about the big mess of the release of Arjun and Bhumi’s The Lady killer this past weekend? Sounds like a complete cluster. The trailer looked promising for a viewer like me who likes Arjun in darker/sexier roles like Aurangzeb. I am more worried about the effects of this debacle on Bhumi after Thank You for Coming did badly at the box office. Arjun will never be top tier, but she deserves to be. And it looks like they are still doing another movie now which is filming currently. They arrived close together at Manish Malhotra’s party this weekend. I know that he and Malaika are supposedly together still, but I’m watching this pairing closely if you know what I mean;)
Is Bhumi ever linked up with other actors? I can’t remember.

Speaking of the Manish Malhotra Diwali party this weekend, lots of pretty outfits. Sid and Kiara had gorgeous coordinating looks. As did Shahid and Mira.

    • This Lady Killer situation was so strange. First absolutely nothing, and then the poster, the trailer and very quick release date all together. Who does something like this? It looked like they just want to get rid of this film, and not think more about it. People already are very suspicious with Arjun’s movies, and this lack of promotion only made them more doubtful. Of course nobody went to see it in cinemas!

I’m now reading an article that says, the movie wasn’t finished but the producers didn’t want to spend more on it, so they edited what they had and released it on some screens , because without a theatrical release they couldn’t sell it to OTT. It sucks. The trailer looked good, Arjun and Bhumi are super hot and act well, the director is good. I’m not saying it could be a super hit, but a decent film yes. And as you say, now it’s another flop for Bhumi (and for our Arjun too) but they don’t have any fault.

      • I was watching this video where this youtuber (tried and refused productions) reviewed the film. The screenwriter commented:

Hi Jammy! This is Ajay Bahl. I like your reviews and that’s the reason I am reaching out here. To confirm, yes the movie is incomplete. 30 pages of the 117 page screenplay were never shot. A huge number of connecting scenes, Arjun and Bhumi’s entire romance, Bhumi’s dependence on alcohol, Ajrun’s sense of being trapped and losing everything and having to run from town, his sense opf total despair, all these psychological beats are missing. So yes its no surprise that the film feels choppy and disjointed.and one finds it hard to connect with the characters. NOW about the rumours floating out here, As director it was extremely painful to shoot The Ladykiller but absolutely not because of the actors, Arjun and Bhumi were sheer joy to work with. They gave their heart and soul to the film, The problem lied elsewhere but that is another story.

Hope this helps yours (and everyones) confusion!

        • That’s fascinating! It sounds like something oldschool from the 90s when they were just cranking movies out with no more ambition than a time pass. It’s surprising that a production house in the modern era, when you have to get funding and blah blah blah, was able to make such a mess-up.

          • The thing is I don’t think that the writers or the actors thought this was one of those films. The writer Ajay Bahl is pretty famous and written films like BA Pass and Section 375. Also Arjun and Bhumi have apparently acted well so its sad that the production house messed up so badly. In my opinion, their using this film for some fishy stuff as the official budget (45 crores) is totally different to what the writer claims it had become.

        • Thanks for the info! I actually watched that video (Jammy is getting on my last nerve lately though…he gives off a certain vibe that is rubbing me the wrong way). I’ve generally liked his reviews though. But I missed the comment on this one from the writer/director. Fascinating. It does sound like something fishy with the producers and the money people. Would have been a movie I would have liked to see! I doubt that it will be finished for the OTT and will ever be finished. Arjun and Bhumi must be furious. It will be extra interesting to see what happens with their other film.

          • It seems to be becoming more common day by day. Gumraah (ARK’s new movie) looked so cheap and it was supposed to be made from an official budget of 25 crores. I also did not notice the comment until I saw it on Jammy’s socials. I mostly enjoy Jammy’s reviews for the fact that he is generally mindful of both the good parts and bad parts of films even if I do not like some of his views on films. Like I despise Tamasha so it is hard to hear about that movie as a masterpiece from anyone’s mouth.

  5. It’s such a sweet idea, with the gifts…and I hope there are new members to gift them 🙂 (I continue to try…)
As for the SpyUniverse: I welcome every idea…and having Kabir already mentioned in Pathaan and Tiger acting in Pathaan, I really hope that both will support Tiger in his new adventure 🙂

  6. I booked my ticket to tiger 3 on Sunday at 4 pm pst in the cinema where Pathaan had some claps and whistles. I’m grateful for something on Diwali since I don’t quite have any other plans or community here yet. Hope the SRK cameo is good.

  7. I’m in the middle of Douglas Sirk’s All That Heaven Allows, and my question is: How it’s possible that this movie wasn’t remade in Bollywood?! It’s so bollywoodian. I want Indian remake but made by someone who makes visually beautiful films. And who can play Rock Hudson’s role? I was thinking about Vikrant Massey but the movie needs a man more classicaly handsome, and well build. Who is hot but also very good actor?

      • They are 100% separated in my opinion. I don’t follow gossip much, but even with my limited knowledge I see something is wrong between them.

      • If they are separated, it feels like it could be a “good” separation. That is, Abhishek has been openly talking about re-assessing his life nad priorities and so on. So they could have just grown apart.

    • Hmmm. That is interesting. I feel like she and Abhishek have made fewer public appearances together lately. Or, it could be normal priority shifting, as her daughter gets older and her mother ages, she wants to spend more time with her family instead of her in-laws.

    • I started paying attention to Aish-Abhishek news and there is another thing that confirms they are not together. Today is Aaradhya’s birthday, and for the first time Aish hasn’t posted a new photo, but used a old one. Abhi did the same. They are cleary not spending the day together. They also haven’t spend Diwali together because Aish and Aaradhya went on vacation the day before the Bachchans had their Diwali puja.
