Weekend WatchAlong: Chori Chori! 7am Chicago Time! For FilmiKudhi!

I’ve downloaded from einthusan, we’ll see if that works better than streaming. But I will probably still be complaining because it is all weird.

Chori Chori

Light happy rom-com with Rani and Ajay, who wouldn’t love it? At 7am Chicago time I will put up an “and PLAY” comment and we will all comment along from there.

  2. So this story is MOSTLY true. But I still like that Ajay isn’t buying it, he can’t just behave like everyone else in her life if they are going to have a healthy relationship.

  3. You know what it is? Rani is the ultimate in leaping in without thinking and just DOING something. And Ajay is the ultimate in sitting back and staying the course and being steady. He needs someone to wake him up and she needs someone to steady her.

  4. Filmikudhi, have you seen the Steve Martin original? I watched it years ago and I still remember some parts. It really dug into what is truth and what is a lie. It has the same plot down to his family owning a furniture store and that’s how she accidentally tells them they are engaged. But by the end everyone has just embraced the “reality” that the heroine has created. They fell in love, they got engaged, he built the house for her, that is the new truth and it’s true because they choose to believe it. Or something like that. Steve Martin gets DEEP.

    • Yes I have seen it but it’s been soo long! And yes! I agree. She basically makes her dreams come true. I will have to watch the movie again but I remember when I first watched the hindi version I remember thinking similar to Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin, something about this movie feels more poignant in the Indian context!

    • There were soooo many pretty landscapes to admire in the background of scenes. I think my favorite was at the end of “Kehna Hai” when the whole mood suddenly changes and they’re silhouetted against the dying light along that hillside.

  6. Genevieve, are you still reading the occasional Crusie? There’s one called “The Cinderella something” that has this plot. Sort of. Our hero is an uptight professor who gets a job at an old fashioned small college and has to have a wife, so he asks the flighty hippie type woman who lives in his same apartment building to pretend to be his wife for a year until he gets tenure.

  7. It should be unhealthy that she is falling for him because he treats her so terribly, and yet somehow I am allllll for it. She needs someone to be practical and burst her balloons.

  8. You know what I want to watch after this? While You Were Sleeping. Not the Salman remake, which is fine but different. The original is absolutely this idea of falling in love with the family first and then the guy. And the family scenes are magnificent.

  9. Finally Ajay starts to fall in love. But he only starts to lust after her AFTER he realized she was the only one who believed in his dreams.
