I love love love Zanjeer. And I was soooooooo happy that it came up as a suggestion. Okay, a suggestion I made, but STILL!!!! It’s also surprisingly short for a 70s film, and on einthusan, so in theory y’all can watch it within the next week (if you haven’t seen it already as you should have).
Zanjeer!
Amitabh’s big break movie, the last movie he made with Jaya before they got married (they are sooooooooo in love). And a really great role for Jaya, she gets to be a tomboy! Lots of fun stuff to discuss, I think.
If you are interested, and think you can watch it within a week, let me know if Friday or Saturday is better for you for discussion!
Ooh, fun! I’m free next Friday afternoon/evening. Saturday I have a thing in mid-morning, but should be free from about 11:30 your time.

Pingback: DCIB Zoom Discussion! Zanjeer! Next Weekend! Unless That’s Too Short Notice For Everyone!!! - News Hour 24/7
There was a daily soap called Rangrasiya (2013-14) . I suspect that it was inspired by Zanjeer. Here also a tough cop with traumatic childhood meets a village belle who is the only witness of a terrible crime. He keeps her with him but everyone around them goes INSANE! A young man and a woman cannot stay under the same roof without being married. After a lot of tumultuous times, they do get married and sloooooooooooooowly he falls in love with her (she did much earlier). Remove the loud background music and soapy parts of the drama, it lovely to watch.

I really am reluctant to say this, but is Amitabh overrated?

How dare you?!?! But also yes. And no. In a vacuum, I can look at his films and say Shashi was better or Dharmendra was better. On the other hand, he was the right man for the right time and is bigger than just what he did on screen.

True. And as an actor I find it hard to find anyone with the same versatility

Can’t this be said about all superstars? At least in the Indian context, it is always about something more than just pure talent.
