Is anyone available either the Friday or Saturday night before Mother’s day?
Is anyone interested in discussing Masoom?
If not, is there another movie you would prefer discussing?

I am available. It is a great suggestion. It am amazing movie with lots of wonderful performances.
Unfortunately, I am just not up for watching this right before Mother’s Day. Just thinking about the movie makes me bawl my eyes out. I do not have the mental wherewithal to watch this with two small children.
I will see if I am up for discussing this without watching it beforehand.

Would “Nil Battey Sannata” be an acceptable lighter alternative? I really had to wrack my pate. . . filmi maas are rarely having a good time.

it’s a testament to my lack of creativity that the only mother-centered movies i could think of were Mother India, Deewar, and Amar Akbar Anthony (although that seems more dad-centered)

I weirdly LOVE Aradhana. It does not make me ugly cry like Masoom does. Maybe because it is more from the mother’s perspective than it is from the child’s perspective. Or maybe because the mother always loves the son and the son grows up being loved by his mom and his adopted parents and is happy.
The more I think about this, the more I think you are on to something here. I haven’t seen this movie in a very long time would totally be up for watching and discussing it!

Thank you all for suggesting other movies. I don’t mind sad parts of the movies in Aradhana, AAA, Andaz. And I really would be up for any of them!
I think Masoom just gets to be because all I see (and think about) is an innocent child, with those sad eyes, who lost his mother and just wants to be loved and belong and can’t have it. And I a damn mess!

No its ok, somehow Masoom has never made me cry so I never realised it is so heartbreaking for others. This may be because I am heartless or also scarred from the true mother’s day nightmare that is Chandni Bar (amazing movie but never again – that made me truly depressed for days).
