Weekend WatchAlong: Yeh Dillagi! 8am Chicago Time!

I got my coffee, I’m cozy in a bathrobe, Albie Dog is curled up next to me, it’s all good! Time to watch a movie! Unless no one shows up within the first 15 minutes, in which case time to read a book instead!

Yeh Dillagi

Fun, silly, Saif and Akshay and Kajol, you’ll love it I promise!

At 8am Chicago time, I will comment “And PLAY!” on this post and then we can all comment along together from there.

  1. I think I’ve lost my patience for the “ha-ha, long term couple comedy” bits. They HATE each other! Reema doesn’t want her husband to be happy and he doesn’t want to spend time with her. This couple is miserable.

  2. I haven’t watched the original Sabrina in a while, but I remember it had the same problem as this version. Audrey and Kajol are both so naturally beautiful that even before their “make over”, it’s hard to believe no one noticed them. I guess Kajol is dressed kind of childish though? And so was Audrey?

  3. If you haven’t seen the original Sabrina, it’s a fun clever movie, but the biggest problem is the huge visible age gap. Audrey is supposed to be a couple years younger than the younger brother, young enough that he ignored her and she hero worshipped him, and then the older brother is like 10 years older than them. But it’s Humphrey Bogart and William Holden and they look twice her age and it’s weird and creepy.

Much much better in this movie, when the cast all looks about the same age, and Akshay can’t be more than 24 (based on it being the 25th wedding anniversary of his parents).

  4. Also in the original, William Holden is supposed to be a smooth ladies man who charms and seduces women, but also is constantly falling in love himself. Very different from Saif who is just kind of horny and gross.

    • I had a theory for a while that the enormous suit jackets were to hid sweat stains during dance numbers. But that doesn’t explain why they wear them even when NOT dancing???

  5. Sorry, now I’m just going to be comparing the two movies/societies. Love that going to the city and getting into entertainment is a way of jumping classes in this film. In the original, she goes to Paris and gets a new haircut. Not as interesting.

  6. I know the giant pictures of hot ladies are supposed to be offputting, but to be honest I think the giant pictures of yourself that seem par for the course in ’90s films are much grosser to me!

  7. Oh wait, this is one of those movies where Reema Lagoo is evil. I forgot. When she’s good she is very very good, but when she’s bad, she’s AWFUL

  8. I think this is the most beautiful Kajol haslooked in the movie so far. Something about her makeup, hair, and the lighting in this scene are amazing.

  9. Ooooo, cool dude at car! And again, very different from original where the big brother is only romancing her in order to get her away from little brother. Akshay is Pure of Heart here.
