Jewel Thief (2025) Review: Dead Dog Warning! But Otherwise, Harmless TimePass

After rescheduling multiple times, I finally watched it! Because it looked fun and harmless and why not? And it was, indeed, fun and harmless.

This is very much a “not as good but okay” kind of movie. Saif’s fine, not as young or starry or handsome as other actors, but okay. The music is okay, the fight scenes are okay, the plot is okay. But nothings actually “good”, just okay.

I highly recommend watching it the way I did, on the couch talking with a friend while it plays in the background. DO NOT watch it with your full attention, you will get bored. Probably also good for doing a puzzle or writing an email. Not folding laundry, that’s too much brain space left available.

The only downside to slightly ignoring the film while watching it is that you miss out on the plot twists. They are fairly elegant, just not as well executed as they could be. I felt mildly sorry I didn’t see all the details play out and had to play catch up. But I think I would have been more sorry if I’d actually focused on the film and wasted the brain space.

On the other hand, harmless film! Saif is still charming, the plot is twisted, the scenery is cool (so much Budapest!), and it’s all very old fashioned lowstakes. Steal the jewel, romance the wife, save your elderly father’s good name.

Not really much else to say about it. Oh, except watch out for the dog scene. And Kulbushan is in it! He’s such a sweet looking old man.

  1. This sounds like a perfect option when I teach three classes in a row and come home so shattered I can’t concentrate on anything, but still have to do something until bedtime. Thanks for the review!

Shah Rukh Khan received his first-ever national award for his performance in the box office juggernaut “Jawan” (Hindi), directed by Atlee. Rani Mukerji was honored for her lead role in “Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway” (Hindi), in which she plays a mother fighting a custody battle with a foreign government.

  4. Hey Margaret! It’s been a while but I wanted to see if you’re watching Aryan’s show The Bastards of Bollywood? It’s pretty good so far, basically gives gen z Luck By Chance vibes. Also this Niki in case wordpress doesn’t recognize my new laptop!

    • Omg, hiiiiiiii! I was just thinking about you! I haven’t watched anything at all lately, been a wee bit busy with Life stuff (fostering 5 kittens, moving a friend into my guest room, etc). But I am so glad to hear from you!
